All right - this is a first for me so don't tear into me too bad :D

I bought a gun because I thought it was interesting, and I don't have any idea what it is. Here's the gun:

    Military Conversion Rifle | Proxibid®

They simply labeled it "military conversion rifle 6.5 cal". I'm not even sure which 6.5 it shoots just yet. Anybody have any info on what this is. It looks like a sporterized version of maybe a military rifle?

    Thanks in advance!

Interesting...I've been reading up on it. I think I may still take it into a gun shop to get a second opinion. I certainly dont want to shoot something wrong in it! I like it, though.

Got ~$200 after taxes/fees in it at the Christy's gun auction today. From what I'm seeing online, that's not too bad.

I think you might have gotten lucky. First of all I do agree with the above posters who said it was a 1938 Swedish Mauser in 6.5 x 55 ( short rifle ) in a sporterized version. From the pics it appears to be one done by a skilled amateur and not to bad a job at that. The scope appears to be a Tasco Pronghorn, arguably the worst scope ever made in the history of optics LOL, but who cares right when the gun is worth every bit of the 200 you have in it. The 6.5 x55 is an excellent medium to big game round and has a long history of being put to effective use as both a sniper rifle and match rifle. Ballistics are similar to a 260 Rem. You do need to take it to a RKI and make sure it is in fact a 6.5 x 55 . But I am confident you will find it so. I would then really consider a new scope of better quality. If the bore is good, and I hope it is, I think you might be very pleasantly surprised that you just bought a very good rifle capable of shooting very well depending on your skill. Assuming the bore is good, that it is a 6.5 x 55, and you got a new scope, I would be very surprised if you did not find this rifle will cleanly take big game at any range considered ethical by the average big game hunter.
