I'm afraid the anti gun lobby will get something this time. With two high profile shootings within a week, one of which killing 20 children at an elementary school, I see people who wouldn't normally concider talking about gun control, talking about gun control. Also the anti gun lobby wants to get that conversation going before the emotional furvor subsides. They well understand the power of emotion. And I'm not sure the emotional furvor of this shooting can die down soon enough for the discussion to be reasonable. Not that the anti gun lobby is all that reasonable without the emotion of a shooting like this.

If a person is known to be mentally unstable with a Dr's. diagnosis, then I don't feel that they should have access to firearms. I don't know how it works but a friend whose daughter committed a felony had to remove the firearms from his home in order for her to live there. Perhaps the same restrictions should be in place for those with certain psychoses.

A person can have a diagnosis, but until one is adjudicated as mentally ill, there isn't much that anyone can do about it. See ATF Form 4473.

To the best of my knowledge, nobody has to surrender a right in order to allow anyone, including a convicted felon, to reside at their residence. Constructive possession may be of issue, but can be easily rectified with properly securing firearms and ammunition. Whomever advised your friend about having to remove their firearms was incorrect.

I realize I'm talking to the choir, but of course the ultimate gun control is no guns in the hands of private citizens. After the last several elections, the people that believe in that ideal are certainly the majority. Their news comes from the mainstream media and the Hollywood left, and after years of attending an educational system run by socialists, they don't know history, have a lot of guilt and think that America is unjust.

As far as guns, they only see them used for violence, death and destruction. They look at people that own guns as criminals or crazy, and certainly politically incorrect. And I work with these people...

i had someone ask me the other day, -what constitutes an assault weapon-

i had no clear answer. my response was -the definition is by whomever has the power to define it-

Any weapon being used to assault you at that time ie. baseball bat, stick, brick, knife, car, truck. All have been used successfully to "Assault" someone.

That is my personal definition only...those polling whores in Gov. have other definitions.

Gun control is nothing more than a sham to take away our independence and control our activities. As long as we the people have guns government can't control everything about our lives.
I you look at welfare, food stamps, unemployement insurance, social security which I recieve, any program that gives benefits to the public or the individuals they all come with a price of giving up self determination. Even the income tax is manipulated to make people do what the government wants.

Agreed, with one caveat. When 2A was written guns were equal force on force with the g********t. Today one would need drones, and cruise missiles to assure liberty, the best that we can hope for is vigilant co-existance.
I AM NOT advocating armed resistance just making an observation. :nailbite:
