I would like to know the name of the stock type.

And also, I am guessing this is not just a built up Rem 700, but something a little more rare.

    Thanks for the assist.

I have read the book and I think the gave specifics in it.......not sure.

    Thanks

I believe I read somewhere his favorite rifles were the McMillan TAC-338 and Remington 700 in .300 Win Mag

The action and ejection port looks like a SA Rem 700 to me, which drove my SR90 comment. The .300 or .338 would be built on a long action. There's also a lot of similarity between the SR90's stock and the one in the photo, but they're not identical.

The stock is what throws me off.

    Remignton would be $600.-700. base,
    McMillan is $8000.

I like the stock, but unsure of the rest of the rifle

maybe its a custom like a surgeon rifle but i thought it was savage at first but i don't see the bolt release on the side of the action but maybe that new fn model 70 tactical( they call something else) they got out now

    That's his .308

It's a 700 worked short action in a McMillan A3 I'm not sure who's barrel it is but it's tipped with a surefire QD brake

Badger bottom metal with a NXS on top

I just opened his book and he said at least when he was first in Iraq, he carried a .300 WinMag bolt-action. Don't know if that is the same one as the picture. If I read otherwise I will post on here.

The rifle pictured by the OP is a .308 built by George and the boys at GAP. While Mr. Kyle prefered a .300 or .338 there should be no questioning the fact he's holding a short action in this pic.

You are correct. It definitely is consistent with their Gladius model .308.

My sis got me his book some time back. Haven't looked at the first page.
Silly I guess, but with his passing I think I'll wait a little while before I read it.

It's the best military/action book I have ever read, I read it straight through and I NEVER do that.
