Now, I didn't watch it either, but I think you gave up your right to know when you chose "baby panda sneeze scares mom" and "DEA agent shoots self in foot" over a presidential address. :)

I actually found myself as pleased as a republican could be with the speech... some stuff i didnt like, ALOT that i did like, provided its not reelection bull****.... if he follows through with half of what he said, i think we will be in a better place. i am sure its not a popular opinion on this board since most republicans will say it was all bull**** just because of who he is, but if you take the man out of the speech, it was most agreeable.

He wants high-speed railways to be available to "80% of Americans." :spend:

Stubbornly sticking with his socialized medicine plan. :spend:

Says he is against earmarks even though he has been responsible for thousands of them.

I would love high-speed railways, just don't want the gov't involved in it

Exactly why he shouldn't be talking about it. If it was a business-worthy idea then someone would already be doing it. The fact is that they are a money pit on the scale that he is talking about.

He talked about eliminating the redundancy of government oversight programs, decreasing the size of the government, that its time they take on the responsibility of lowering national debt, alot about education needing improvement, eliminating the 1099 earmarks from the healthcare bill, successful w/draw from iraq, recognized the hard work and sacrifice of the troops in a-stan, eliminating earmarks from bills that make it to his desk, securing the border and taking action to stop illegal immigration and confront the millions of undocumented workers.... all things i agree w/ provided it wasnt a bunch of bull for a reelection pitch.

You've gotta love Facebook! It's my political soapbox, so naturally, I don't have many friends!

Here's a copy of the posts I made during the speech:

So now new/more spending = "investing"? If I'm behind on my bills, should I "invest" in a membership at a golf course in "hopes" that I'll turn pro, make millions, and then be able to pay my bills?

‎2nd thought - Eliminate the Department of Education and standardized testing. Return responsibility to the state and local levels, and start teaching TRUE American history.

‎3rd thought - Who travels by rail? Americans love our cars! And I'm "offended" that Obama laughs about abusing the 4th Amendment via TSA invasions.

‎4th thought - After 2+ years of record breaking spending bills, I'm supposed to believe that he has the answers to "bring down costs" and reduce the debt? How does that happen when he clearly intends to protect entitlements?

‎5th - The introduction of a transparent government! What a novel idea! If only someone had campaigned on that 3 years ago! So the gov't is creating a website allowing us to see gov't figures provided by the gov't regarding tax dollars collected and spent by the gov't. And why should I trust this site? Oh yeah, because it's guaranteed accurate, by the gov't.

‎6th - Credit where it's due, he's finally spoken of America's greatness and the American Dream. If only someone would advise him that we established a republic and not a democracy!

‎7th - The only thing missing from this campaign speech was his slogan for '12, unveiled in Tucson; "Together We Thrive".

I thought it was a pretty good speech. He acknowledged tough political times ahead as they push to make real reform, spending must be controlled, innovation and research must be fostered as they lead to growth, healthcare must be revised not abandoned, education must be improved by not protecting crap teachers and training better ones, real immigration reform,... etc.

I liked his slap at big oil. Challenged Congress to remove the billions in tax breaks and subsidies we give them and put it into clean energy research.

He took a pretty centrist view acknowledging that good ideas came from both sides... and the democracy at its best takes time and compromise.

Now, the question is can our politicians deliver... from both sides.

This is pretty much what I heard as well. My jaw just about hit the floor when like 3 minutes after talking about securing borders and "dealing with the undocumented workers already here", he proclaimed that corporate tax rates must come down.

I thought that at that moment, the camera would cut away to the real BHO struggling with his rope bindings in a darkened back room, a la an 80's show on TBS.

Plenty to like about this speech, and of course plenty open to criticism. I flipped over to Fox News after the speech to get their take on it, and about puked in my mouth a little. I usually stand up for them, especially vs. MSNBC, CNN, etc, but there was no graciousness or fairness to be shown in what is possibly a major pivotal moment for our nation.

What passes for centrism in this country is still quite socialist. Just saying.

And I defiinantly agree. More of the same, as far as entitlements and healthcare.......but there were many major policy shifts or firm statements instead of empty rhetoric on major issues like gov't redundancy and immigration. I am sure that many Dem's are steamed right now, unless they got the "omg, its all for the lols, watch me troll these noob repubs!" note before the speech began.

Obama wants Amnesty. That's how he will "deal" with them.
