I am going to be working up a match .308 load soon and I was wondering what everyone else was using.

This will be coming out of my gasser with 1 in 12 twist.

    Thanks!

My son's 308 likes 155gr A-Max bullets with H4895 powder, pushed to within a grain or so of MAX. It's shooting 1/3 MOA groups out to nearly 300 yards.

My 20" Howa 1500 Heavy barrel likes 168 gr AMAX with CCI BR-2 primers and 44.0 gr. of Varget. Very accurate load and it burns pretty clean.

My Savage 308 also likes 168gr AMAX on top of 44 gr of Varget. I've found that the 168 Matchkings shoot identical in the same load. I've always used Winchester brass and primers for no other reason than that they were cheapest and easiest to find.

This is a load I worked up for a DPMS 308B that shot just shy of 1/2" at 100 yards and I was able to make hits out to 800 yards with.

    Brass: Remington
    Primer: Winchester
    Powder: Varget 43.0
    Bullet: Sierra Matchking 168gr

The varget and the matchking are a beautiful combination.

    Great info here guys!
Anyone found trends that separate good from better in the bolt guns vs semi-auto's, 1/10 vs 1/12?

I've got nothing but love for the 1 in 10" twist. I have no desire to try a 1 in 12".

Savage with a custom barrel for my "match" shooting.

Lapua Brass, Redding neck sizer (fire formed if new) to .307", 2.008" case length, weight selected cases when new
    175gr Sierra HPBT, moly coated
    2.211" length @ ogive for .017" jump
    Federal 210M primer
Varget, for this time of year and this time of day, with 65° and 70ish% humidity it'll take somewhere around 43.2gr
Concencentricity must be 0.000" runout to be accepted and put into use, I have to use a custom seater die I made and an arbor press to achieve this.

On a sled, you will be hard pressed to note the holes at 100yd. At 1000yd, I can comfortably hit a 5" plate 95% of the time. At 1500yd, I'm on a 12" plate at least 80% but definetly out of glass at that point.

^ that recipe about exactly duplicates FGGM ammo, my rifle likes it a tad slower, but you can't go wrong there.

But I prefer Winchester brass and CCI 200, but not because the have better accuracy.
