    In short:

It's time for another pet peeve thread!

Are pet peeve threads your pet peeve? If so - then neener neener neener. :p

Mispronunciation of simple every-day English words by native English speakers. Not talking about Queen's English vs. American English here, either. I'm talking about saying the word "compromise" as "com" and "promise" :n00b: (Normally wouldn't be a big deal, but the person who says this has a Master's degree. And is a school teacher.)

    Ready, set, go!

Not so much a peeve, but the funniest one, for me, is my husband can not say the word, "deaf." He always mispronounces it "deaTH." So, Marlee Matlin is the Grim Reaper! Yay.

It drives me nuts when people say they "could care less." That implies some level of caring.

The correct wording should be "couldn't care less." As in, the level of caring is at it's lowest possible point.

I'm not sure why this makes me crazy, but I hear people saying it wrong all the time.

Here's how I usually realize that I'm wound a little tight.

When I'm arguing with somebody, and they start coughing and gasping for air, I just let go of their throat.

I can't stand it when somebody pronounces jalapeno with English phonics. (that the word to use?) As in they pronounce the "j" as in jello and instead of pronouncing the "pen" similar to pain they just say it like the word pen. Juh-lop-in-o. I want to punch you. It's "ha-luh-pain-yo" for land's sake!

I hate when people insist that foreign words be pronounced in the foreign way. English has been polluted with words from 20 or so different languages. I feel no need to learn all of those "proper" pronunciations. We speak English here, get over it.

When people stress out over a simple word like the one that rhymes with "itch" but has the second letter from the alphabet in front of it.. Stupid crap like that.

I hate the curse word police. They are like Nazi's, just more annoying.

    You beat me to it.
With me it is the drastic change in facial expression/skin color/tonal quality of voice. That is when I realize I am squeezing their throat to tight.

When people don't fix the spelling in their posts. It underlines it with red marks! Why can't you just right click them and correct it!

Could care less is a big one for me. I always think the person is a big buffoon. But I have seen numerous movies that use could vs the proper couldn't.

I can't stand people with speech problems.

    "Suffing" instead of something.
    "Aminal" instead of animal

People who say stuff like " I found my tape player, I am going to watch some cassettes "

It is a freaking VCR and that movie is on VHS!

When its been a BAD day and you have used every ounce of energy to make it home without causing severe bodily harm to another human being...only to be met at the front door by a husband and/or child just ready to poke the grizzly with a sharp stick! The words "give me a minute to get in the house and kick my shoes off" mean NOTHING to them.

I feel I'm wound too tight when my kid does something minor and I react too hard. Rest of the over reactions don't really bother me too much.

Except when people don't rep me. That makes me so :xmad:!!!

When communication is through civil internet chatter such as this, I hardly put much interest in perfect punctuation, grammar, etc. Realistically, the worst thing it does is annoy someone with OCD.

So long as the person typing can type well enough to effectively communicate their point, then it's no big deal. Who cares if it's perfect....that's just a bit over the top IMO (wound too tight)
