When I was a kid I watched a cable special at a friends house (We didnt have cable) that was an 80s version of the Twilight Zone. One of the stories was about an abusive father who terrorized his kids. One night after dad abused the boy and bulldozed his toys in the sandbox as punishment, the toys (army men, jeeps, etc) came to life and killed the dad. horrifically.

The other favorite was "Dark Night of the Scarecrow". Its about a gentle giant developmentally disabled man that all the rednecks in the community feared and hated. He saved a young girl from a dog attack while they were playing together away from her home in the country. He fought off the dog and carried her to safety, bringing her bloody body home to her mom. Dad freaked when he heard and gathered a posse assuming he harmed the girl. Moments after chasing him down and brutally killing him, Dad gets word via CB that the man they are chasing is a hero; he saved her life by bringing her to safety. They all are shocked, but agree to sweep the mistake under the rug. One by one, the farmers that chased the man down are picked off in various supernatural "accidents". The ending is really cool.

If you have amazon prime, its free to watch.

Video from my first wedding. I still have nightmares 30 years later.

    LOL.

For some reason that reminded me, my supervisor in Europe told me his Irish wife's family were watching a video of the reception party another member of the family got hitched, and the video clearly showed the bridegroom pickpocketing his new father-in-law's wallet. Oops.

Um....yeah. Couple of hours I won't get back.

Nice guns though...I have a theory...The writer of that film saw these two specials... Secrets of the Dead or Timeline....I believe the protagonists were descended from the Aztec's that took out the Anasazi ....

The guy that put forth this theory a lot of heat...Let me know what you think???

Blair Witch was the first one that really got me. I was 13 when I first saw it, and my dad and I were going bow hunting the next morning. I was sitting in a stand about a quarter mile from my dad, and we usually just walked with the light of the moon. That morning however I had my flashlight on the entire way and was shining it all around once we split up to go to our stands.

Insidious really creeped me out, something about getting lost in another dimension with demons while sleeping freaks me out.

Also, The Conjuring really creeped me out. My mom used to work with a lady who said she could communicate dead. I was and still am a bit skeptical, but she has helped solve murders across the country that I just can't see how unless she really could. Well this lady worked with the family that the conjuring is based on, and she said the movie is pretty much spot on as to what really happened.

Never cared for hacker slasher porn. Suspense is okay, Aliens was good. The only movie I remember getting the willies from as a kid was The Fly (original B/W).

Early 80's movie called The Boogens. Miners reopen an abandoned mine that was closed because they dug too deep and unleashed some monsters. The monsters dug tunnels under all the houses in town and would crawl out into the basements. The monster scenes were all shot from the point of view of the monsters. So you saw it climbing stairs and chasing and killing people. Found out later the creatures the special effects company made for the movie were so bad that the director refused to use them.

“Children of the corn” Was watching with friends, one had daughter about 7-8 she was sitting beside me. She stretched out and hit me during one of those scary scenes. I was airborne, literally. They laugh about it when it comes up.

    Near the big river.
Little off topic, just watched "Freaks" on TCM, made in 1932. About circus people with genetic disorders. Looks like it was filmed with actuals circus members.

One scene has midgets/ legless people crawling thru the rain and mud to kill the bad guy. Completely out of my nightmares!!!!

    Interesting:

Orlando Sentinel*- As Halloween nears, scary movie-viewing tends to increase. In fact, a recent study by Gigacalculator.com found that searches for “horror films” are up 2,750 percent this year, based on an Oct. 13 Google Trends analysis.

Inspired by these Google searches, Gigacalculator.com — which provides online calculators to help solve various tasks — wanted to determine the scariest horror movie, the one that gets pulses racing the most.

The company first invited 2,542 horror film fans to name the 10 scariest movies of all time. From the survey results, they selected the top 10 films and then asked 150 volunteers to wear a heart rate tracker while watching each of these flicks for the first time. Gigacalculator.com analyzed this data to determine which films increased participants’ heart rates the most, using a normal resting heart rate between 60-100 BPM as the baseline.

    The results:

“Hereditary” was the scariest film, with participants having an average of 115 BPM.
“Saw” follows closely behind with an average of 113 BPM. Participants described the torture scenes as “harrowing” and “disturbing.”
“The Babadook” averaged 110 BPM, followed by “Insidious” at 108 BPM,
“A Quiet Place” at 106 BPM,
    “The Descent” at 103 BPM,
    “Us” at 100 BPM,
“It” at 99 BPM and “The Conjuring 2” at 97 BPM.
Rounding out the top 10 was the 1973 classic “The Exorcist,” with an average of 96 BPM.
