I have a stripped AR upper receiver and BCG and plan to buy more parts over time to assemble something fun. Right now, I'm undecided as to which caliber to go with, barrel length, etc.

So, What would you do? OR What have you aready done?

What are your needs in an AR15? Is this going to be a fun gun?

I already have 2 AR15s both 5.56 carbines. They satisfy all my plinking desires. I really want to put something together as an opportunity to learn more about the platform and maybe add something I can do some hunting with. On the other hand, I wouldn't be opposed to building something with a longer barrel.

I kind of in the same boat as I do have two rifles in 5.56, I do want a third rifle that I can hunt with and I been looking hard into the 300 blackout. The only issue that is see is the availability of ammo and price. The positive side is that everything is compatible with 5.56 except the barrel, also don't have to buy a whole rifle just the upper because like I mentioned before everything else is compatible so don't have spend any extra money.

I went the way of the 300BLK. I am a hand loader and tinkerer though. If you are not into hand loading and tinkering I wouldn't recommend it.

    6.5 Grendel, 6.8 SPC, 204 Ruger, 300 Blackout, 9mm, 7.62x39, 5.45x39 are some of your choices for a different caliber in the AR(15) platform. I know I'm missing a few:D

Would I have to have a dedicated lower for the tax stamp to do that? If so, I'm not ready for that step forward.

No, you don't NEED a dedicated lower. You can get a quality mag-block in there to run 9mm mags.

Build it as a pistol... Then as funds allow, you SBR it / stamp it.

Then, if you wanted, you could assemble / build / buy other short lowers in all manner of calibers to run through the SBR. :D

I went with a 16" pipe and never plan on running anything but supers. No problems of any kind.

Hope to pop some pigs with it.

I would defiantly go with 300blk. It is what I want next! However, if you are looking for something to hunt with, the 450 bushmaster is a pretty legit deer gun!

I've already got a BCG that will work for 300 blk. I did consider going with the 450 though.
Yeah, I mean if you want to buy a suppressor then got 300blk... If you are looking for something to hunt with go 450. That's what I think.
