My girlfriend has really gotten into firearms with me. She has been shooting a .22 bolt action Savage because she is worried about recoil (she won't even touch my .30-06).

Recently she has been firing my AR15 and really likes it. She is wanting a bolt action in .223 because she says she didn't mind the recoil. An added benefit is that I already have reloading stuff for .223.

What are some good .223 rifles we should look at? This will mainly be used for target shooting at the range. Thanks.

Savage or Remington, you're about to get a real good "this" vs "that" thread going. Both are very well built rifles and they both offer models to fit almost any budget. Get a shop and get hands on time with one and everything else will fall into place. Don't let the internetz make any more difficult that it should be.

Savage, I really like my 10 FP. It might be a little heavy for your Girlfriend tho. You can get a Stevens 200 pretty cheap only difference between the two is the Stevens doesn't come with the accutrigger.

I'm a fan of savage rifles, but wouldn't turn away a remington for the right price.

Have a savage 10fp in .223. I looked at a savage edge also, but lucked into the 10fp. There's a great review on the edge that's fairly recent on here too. Can't speak to the Stevens or any Rem options.

CZ, Savage, Remington and Ruger all make good rifles in .223. CZs are excellent rifles that often get overlooked. :yesway:

Picked one up a few weeks ago. You can get the rifle /scope combo for $300 at Walmart. I have upgraded the scope and am very pleased with the accuracy so far. Less expensive way to start.

Thanks for all the replies so far. What are some of the average prices for some of these rifles?

For those of you that have the Savage Edge or Axis, do you wish you would have gotten the accutrigger? She has the accutrigger on her .22 and I have it on my .30-06. I have never shot one without it.

This is the .223 bolt rifle that I chose; it's a Savage 12FCV. I believe it's been discontinued, but it's a VERY accurate rifle... Accutrigger, Accustock, heavy fluted bbl. It's also pretty heavy, I wouldn't want to schlep it around the woods but the weight helps with felt recoil.

I picked up a Ruger 77 Stainless (223), put a Boyd thumbhole stock on it, mounted a NIKON ProStaff BDC w/ ARD, plus a bipod I had laying around, and I take nothing else to the farm when I'm out and about. I have a ton of 223s, but this one is my favorite, as it's light, super accurate, and best of all, it's a Ruger. I really need to post a pic of it. I'll work on that.

I have a Remington 700P in .308. I'd like it more if it was a .223 so Im saying go with the R700P. Impact guns has them. Plus with this rifle, you get the total 'Tacticool' feeling. She'll love it.
