    That is a Berdan primer pocket and it is missing the two flash holes which is why the primer popped out when fired. The dome is supposed to be there.

    You summed it up really well. To explain in a little more detail: With a boxer primer there is one flash hole in the case and the anvil is part of the primer. With berdan primers there are 2 flash holes in the case and the anvil is part of the case. That's what the dome is in the photo. I was trying to show that there were no flash holes.
