I am building my first AR-15 lower. What's your favorite basic LPK? When I say basic, I don't necessarily mean the cheapest, but I don't intend on dropping big coin on my first one. I have a stock and grip in mind already.

Colt LPK Minus FCG at G and R Tactical

If not Colt, Spikes standard kit comes with turned KNS pins, and their kits that I've seen have been pretty high quality.

And if you're already planning on swapping out some components, Umbrella Corp has a "minimalist" LPK that leaves out some parts (ex. trigger guard).

I'd have to vote for CMMG as well. My best LPK. I have to say I am not real impressed with my DPMS kits. Can't say they all are like mine, but I'd look elsewhere. I had a double star that I bought when no AR parts were available a yr or so ago and its not too bad either.

Another vote for the CMMG. I've put together 5 with CMMG's, and the trigger's have been consistently good. Very smooth pull.

I've seen Colt, and RRA kits "S" marked.

This is another one of those things that you'll hear a lot of brand hype about for parts pumped out the same subcontract door. My experience is far from exhaustive and there are probably folks that make their own.

CMMG worked for me. Then I have only built 3 ARs. I was just glad to see someone besides me was using CMMG. Now I know I didn't do to bad.
