what would constitute leaving your home? What "sign" would it take and where would you go? It seams as though if a situation were bad enough to make me want to leave home, anywhere available to go would be in as much danger as home.

    Depends on what happens.

    1) You live in a trailer park. Weather man says a bad storm is coming. :dunno:

    2) You live down in a "holler" and a big snow storm is coming.

    3) Crop fire in the field next door and the wind is blowing your way.

All of these are "signs" that you might want to temporarily re-locate to a safer place.

Now, if you are asking, "when is it time to become a hermit?" Well, any time is a good time for that. Assuming you'll be self sufficient, and plan to live that way until you die, does timing really matter? :dunno:

Easy now, im on ur side. Just looked into the survival threads for the first time and found it a bit crazy. Seemed like all it was about was crazy occurances that dont seem to likely. Not ruling them out, just unlikely.

You need to leave home 24 hours before the 99% realize that the S is about to HTF. Have your hideaway ready ASAP.

What kind of sign triggers the exodus? Local bank holidays (failures), riots, loss of electricity that is not due to weather.

Good question. I have been working on more than one plan depending on how the SHTF happens. On one extreme there is a natural or manmade disaster that wipes out huge population centers and disrupts everything on a national level overnight. On the other extreme there is the long slow slide into the crapper that gets worse every day and one day you must act. Two different plans are required.

There is a third plan that requires learning Mandarin Chinese but I don't like to think about that.

Maybe we should all have 2 or 3 planned scenarios and responses.

We have 3 different escape routes and destinations and all are within 2 hrs. tops if we do not encounter mass disruption. Consider laying low until the initial surge is either gone or thwarted. Let all the un-prepared panic stricken folks take that hit. If possible stay put and live off of you stores until it appears to be safe enough to move. That will give you enough time to gather everything you need and put a proper plan together. We will be convoying so fuel is an issue. That is addressed with a pump that will run off whatever power is available,12/120 volts and a good hose to siphon. Are you a looter if you take fuel in flight, that is up to you.
