As a present, my in-laws have offered to replace our living room window. It's about 48" square 4 panes.

Now, my wife would also like to convert it to a bay window if at all possible, so we'd like to keep that option open.

I've heard that window-world is good. Any other recomendations?

You could easily convert that space with a replacement bow window. You could have a picture in the middle and have 2 flankers, either double hung or casement windows on each side.
Typically a bay window would have the floor extended. [hence the term bay]
Just make sure you have low E and Argon gas fillled double pane glass.
If you are handy you could replace the window yourself and save a ton of cash.

+1 for doing it yourself. Not nearly as hard as one would think. And you really do save a ton of cash. Also enables you to upgrade window a tad if that was of interest. We've always had wonderful luck with JeldWen windows. (Menards carries them.) You could do that size window in a day, including trim out.

But if DIY is not in the cards, I've also heard decent reviews for Window World.

Another option: buy your window and hire someone to install it.

I went with Gilkey when I did the whole house.
The thing about windows..... It's all negotiable.
Don't be afraid to talk the salesman down.

    BTW,
Primax will never set foot on my property again.
