Okay, well they should have consequences...but look at all the long serving dictators and repressive regimes around the world. Unfortunately, karma seems to be asleep at the wheel.

I did some work with the SA Black Devils back in the 70's, the country has loaded itself into a hand basket and is well on their way to Rhodesian hell. If any successful farmer is reading this, get the hell out now.

Watch what happens there, to what was one of the most advanced countries on the planet.
And then look to your borders because the globgov's that guided South Africa into this are guiding our country into it. They want you.

I'm seeing a per capita GNI of ~$6000 USD for SA, as opposed to an average per capita GNI for sub-saharan africa of ~$1700 USD. One has to wonder where all the money is going

Meh.... they should have gotten their act together decades ago. They are in this predicament because people clung to their biases far too long.

That's true (depending on who we determine "they" is), but is doesn't mean that swinging the pendulum hard back the other way is smart, wise or right.

Wait, did you mean to post this in the Baltimore/Cummings thread? Because, you know, it would fit right in and make perfect sense there too

Agreed. The backlash is as equally wrong as the reason why it occurred.

One of the most advanced countries on the planet? No, not even close. One of the most advanced countries on the African Continent? Definitely. Once you get more than a few miles from any large city, people rely on diesel powered personal generators for electricity, water is from a well, and roads are rarely maintained. Internet is not only available though but found on most farms as it is the primary means of communication. All of the above is true for the rural land holders, most of the farm workers and some smaller landowners don't even have access to the above.

No need to wonder, it is going into the pockets of corrupt government officials. Corruption is legendary throughout Africa and South Africa is no exception.

That depends upon how you gauge advancements. Their achievements put them among the most advanced in my book.
They had nuclear technology, including nuclear weapons.
    They had pioneering genetic research.
They had the first heart transplants.
    Oil from coal technology development.
Advances in astronomy and archeology come to mind from somewhere way back there.

And as I said, look to your borders. Our turn is coming.
