VERY NICE!!!! what finish did you use on the head?

how thick is that other hawk? holy cow!!!

The finish is just oil, chain lube actually. I had some lying around close so I used it. My other hawk is 3/8" D2 tool steel, it is a beast! I need to order some hand grip material and I might be able to finish it soon.

so heres all i got done today on the new trail hawk.

    1. took off stickers
    2. removed it from the haft
    3. stripped the paint off the head ussing paint stripper.
    4. started sanding the head by hand with different grits, finished with 400
    5. put it back together for a picture.

I need to buff it and then put a finish on it. i will do it tomorrow and also finish the haft that I havent started on yet. Im gonna try a tiger stripe burn this time instead of rings.

the pic of the head alone is what it looked like after the strip. it was pretty rough. A LOT of sanding by hand to get this right. and its still not where I want it to be. the second pic is after 400 gritt paper. i will try to get all the pits out of the head before i finish it.
