Why carry knives?

I carry a smaller folding Schrade for opening mail, and simple stuff. I have a Leatherman CORE for the tool part. I carried the Leatherman when I was overseas. Serrated blade opens MRE's easily.. I can't remember everything I used it for over there, but it was used everyday for something.

Used one to cut a seat belt to remove someone from an upside down smoking car, from then on I ask people why they dont carry one...

Cause cutting stuff is always fun. If I can't shoot it then hopefully I can cut it.
