It never made it to cold. I'd say -16 F to -18 F is straddling the line between "brisk" and "chilly."

It's not Officially Cold until it goes to -20 F and below.

I took off my flip-flops (what we used to call "thongs") so I could feel the snow between my toes.

I had to run out into 12" of snow this morning in my Birkenstocks to carry in our 25-lb Eskie. He got out to the far corner of the yard and then his paws were too cold to come back.

Oh, and Kelvin - that would be approximately 233K for -40C. The units are the same, but zero Centigrade is 273K. Therefore 273 - 40 = 233K.
