By the way, indiucky, please do some research on humidification. Good instruments can be ruined quickly due to excessive drying in the winter months when we rely on indoor heat. My current favorite are the two-way humidification systems, but they’re somewhat expensive.
This is very true. I have to watch the drum set really closely.

I took up Guitar this year. I'm fortunate, since I know piano, but this is weird stuff, so I'm with you Indi. Just get used to counting. One Two Three Four One Two Three Four (you don't even have to take off your boots!).

Also, I keep staring at your Bass. Is that wrong?

Nice bass. 1. There are any number of online resources for bass players, but they will not take the place of one on one instruction. 2. Guitar players don't think like bass players, but can help you learn the fret board. 3. Learning chord shapes on guitar will help you in play alongs by recognizing chords and thereby the notes you can play. 4. you are going to want a small bass amp, even for front porch jams. An acoustic bass simply does not have the voice to make its' presence known in an all acoustic mix. It would need to be the size of the bass viol to get that kind of volume.

I could go on, but i think you have the idea. Have fun, above all, have fun.

As a novice bass player myself I get it. I've been "playing" for a years now off and on. I don't practice like I should and don't open the case unless I'm scheduled to play at church, but it's fun when I get it out.

    Also...

So when is it appropriate for us to start making bass player jokes?

What's the difference between a bass player and a large pizza??
A large pizza can feed a family of 4.

How do you get a bass player off your front porch?
    Tip him for the pizza.
