Picked up my 94 today. It's a RANGER chambered in .30-30. It's around 24 years old, but in real nice shape. Get some ammo next week and make some noise!!!!! sdb321

You may already be aware of this, but that rifle will be legal for deer here in Indiana come November gun season, as long as you hunt on private land with it and carry no more than ten rounds total while hunting with it.
    I call that a win.

That's a really cool gift, but I'll have to be the one to point out that The Duke traditionally carried the Winchester 1892 on screen, including in the famous "Fill your hands, you son of a *****!" seen from True Grit.

And you would also be remiss to not point out that True Grit is set in 1873, approximately 20 years before the either of those two Winchesters were manufactured.

You're asking for a level of knowledge from Hollywood that rarely exists. If you're looking for 100% firearms accuracy in films you won't be watching many...

I likes me a Win 94. My younger son inherited a nice 1952 model from his Grandpa last year. It's a good shooter. It's a pleasure to see an 11 year old shoulder and fire a 30-30.

Nice firearm OP, that was my first new gun purchase...oh, a couple of decades before yours was made. I learned a lot with that rifle, taught many friends and relatives how to shoot with it too. Have fun with it and take care of it, you'll have an heirloom if you keep it.

Hey guys, Thanks for the comments. I know pictures are everything, but I'm not a computer whiz. I am lucky to get it to turn on. As far as hunting deer, no can do. I love to watch them but I could not shoot one. All I want to do is punch holes in paper, " ring steel", and make a lot of noise!!!!! sdb321

sdb321 here again. Since getting the "94" nothing but good things have happened. I went to the golf club the next day and told a friend about my purchase and he gave me a set of .30-30 dies. Then I went to a pawn shop to see what they had and found a RCBS SINGLE STAGE PRESS (PARTNER PRESS KIT). He was asking $100, walked out with it and paid $90. I guess it was kismet that I own this rifle!!!!!! sdb321

The stars were clearly aligned for you that day.
Great work diving into the reloading game.
There's no turning back once you get it figured out.
    Trust me on that. ;)

oldpink, I'm new to reloading but not dark green. I bought a couple of S&W REVOLVERS (two "38's & a .357 686) last year. Not long after that I bought a Dillon S.D.B. Still learning and having a BLAST !!!!!!

    .
True enough, allow an old man his illusions. I can still shoot my 100 year old Winchesters and feel proud, the past lives on in these rifles.
