    In the National Electical Code...

    Article 406.6 (B) Connection of Attachment Plugs:
    Attachment plugs shall be installed so that their prongs, blades, or pins are not
    energized unless inserted into an energized receptacle or cord connectors. No
    receptacle shall be installed so as to require the insertion of an energized attachment
    plug as its source of supply.


    Thank you, i was just curious... And just to clarify, it is not Illegal, it is just a NEC code violation and could result in a fine. But the possibility of being caught is extremely low in a residential application, since Indiana has no Electrician License requirements the code inspectors very seldom inspect anything, sadly. (While it is dangerous and not advised, it in fact is not illegal)

    This method is extremely dangerous and not advised, don't take the cheap route when it comes to electricity..
