Heading off to the Lafayette PD to get the paperwork for a LTCH filled out. Friend of mine said I had to first go to the local PD, fill out the forms, then be told I had to head off to the sheriff's department to finish the process. Is this true?

you need to go to the department for your area. if you are in the city limits, laf pd. if out, but in the county, the sheriff.
