That's a great movie, but requires a serious suspension of disbelief. :) The premise was fascinating, though.

    ETA:
It was a bit of a precursor to the internet speculation on "what would happen if...."

    ETA2:
Wasn't there a couple Phantoms in the movie, too?

Yeah, it's just annoying to me how they depict some things.

    .
The Lexington was damaged in the battle of Coral Sea from air attack and damage control was getting a leg up on the problems until a severe explosion thought to be avgas ignited by a generator expanded the fires dramatically. A decision was made to abandon ship and scuttle after valiant but futile efforts were made to fight the spreading fires. The Wasp, another carrier suffered the same fate later in the war when fires went out of control. Scuttling attempts were unsuccessful and the carrier was abandoned, a Japanese submarine finally sinking it. Through the war the navy was constantly working on new and better methods of fire control, in 1944 the Franklin suffered horrific fires from air attack, but eventually made it back to base under her own power.

    Those are great pictures Sylvain.
Did you take them all yourself or were you steering the submarine? :):
