I picked up an XDm 3.8 in 45acp yesterday and I've noticed something odd that I don't think I've ever seen before. When a loaded magazine is in the chamber, it's rather difficult (read:almost impossible..) to release the magazine unless you push up a little on the bottom of the magazine.

Is there something strange going on here? Or am I just crazy?

I have a couple of XDm's and the mag release button was hard to press when the mag was loaded and the gun was new. I found the mag release loosens up over time.

i just got an xd9sc in a trade and its the same way. only with a loaded mag. and it has 1000 rounds through it. i would say its because with a loaded mag theres a lot of pressure on the release.
thats the only thing i dont like about this gun. the design of the mag release is..um..unique

Glad to know I'm not crazy :D

I love my 3.8 so far. I think it's nearly a perfect carry gun. Just needs to be a little slimmer IMHO. 1.05 - 1.1 inches instead of 1.3 would make a huge difference.

Mine also is this way. With a loaded mag it Is a very tight fit and presses the mag down somewhat. If you chamber a round it releases easily. I also found my mags rattle a bit when they are fully loaded and inserted but once I round is chambered it relieves the pressure and the rattle stops.

I have an XDm 3.8 and a 5.25. Both do this. I concur with Toolepqk here too that once the #19 round is chambered, the release is good to go.
