Yes, this is seriously how I view people that don't like dogs. They are that crazy. I guess we can't all be blessed with intelligence.

Ever stop to wonder how dogs got the knickname "man's best friend"? Yes, it's true that dogs can, and are breed to perform tasks for their humans. Beyond that, however, is the fact that a dog is so unlike other animals. Their pack mentality (societal structure if you will) is such that when they live with humans, those humans become part of their pack (family).

Just as humans can turn on each other, so can a dog, and I'm sure a dog can get the same mental illness as humans, but 99% (for the dog) of the time it's because of the way they were treated by those humans, that will cause a dog to lose it.

However, a dog, and a human are just a good match. It's almost like after God created Eve, he thought something was still missing, so he had man domesticate some wolves into dogs.

I've never been without a dog, unless it was because I couldn't. I adopted strays on deployments even, to help me remember I was human. Now I have one as a service dog, because of injuries during my last deployment. I feel pity who people who have to live without a dog in their life. To live with, and enjoy the unconditional love of a dog is one of life's great pleasures. This is why people get so attached to them, almost like a family member. (look at my sig line for one)

Way down in our back yard, by the creek, (about 100 yds from the house) we have a boulder. It's called "Dog rock". This is a monument. Under, and all around this rock is where we bury our dogs, who unfortunately don't have the lifespan of humans. This is a photo I took of our 21 year old son (had to call him home from college) when we buried Diamond, his min-pin. This should tell you all you need to know about how close dogs, and humans are suppose to be...

As far as "dog smell" goes, yeah it's something you live with, but if you haven't any fond memories of "puppy breath" you're missing out. That smell is far less offending than some of the smells I've had to deal with standing in line at public places, and it means you have a new lifelong best friend.
Where is that written? I'm not aware of any such rule or law. That dogs and humans develop close bonds is an is statement of fact. It's at best descriptive, not prescriptive. There's aren't any facts that make it a should statement other than belief. I love dogs too. But to each his own. Cats not so much. Those cat-ass-to-the-face lovers are free to be weird if they want.
    I have spoken.

None of the cats I've had have ever stuck their ass in my face. What the hell are you doing man?? Dogs on the other hand (which I also love) always have their faces in each others' asses.

    I got rid of mine.
    It was too temperamental/finicky.

I base the "should" statement on the phrase "Man's best friend". Of all the animals on the earth, dogs are the best friend that mankind has. We hold some animals above others, and "dog" is often a slur used towards bad people, but if you look at how a dog and a human can become so close, it's easy to see why they got that knickname. I also believe that horses have a special bond towards humans that eclipses the "beast of burden" utility that they provide, as do cats, just not to as great an extent.

You know what I like best about most people? Their dogs.
