So lets say I want to buy the TacSol .22LR suppressor online. Where does all of this fall in?

If you want to buy a suppressor online, say from a vendor or an auction, you would have your local dealer send his FFL/SOT to the seller. This part is the same as a normal firearm transfer, except that you need a dealer who can deal in class 3.

The seller (assuming they were a class 3 dealer as well) would send in a Form 3 to the ATF. This is an application to transfer the suppressor to your dealer. Once the seller gets this approved form mailed back to them (2-8 weeks) he will send your can to your dealer. Once the can gets here, you and the dealer will fill out a Form 4 to get the suppressor transfered to you. In most cases you will get fingerprints done and your police chief to sign off on the form. (You can also form a trust or corporation, but that's for another thread). This gets sent to the ATF with a $200 check and once it comes back (1-5 months), you go pick up your suppressor.

One recommendation for online shopping for a suppressor is Major Malfunction. MAJOR MALFUNCTION - Class 3 III NFA dealer - suppressor / silencer sales This guy has AWESOME prices and is great to deal with. Though you would have to pay a transfer fee for a dealer here ($50-100), you save on sales tax ($17-70 or so) and probably get a better price.

Call this number tomorrow and ask them, I'm sure that someone in the District Six office will take the time to explain the rules, they get paid to do that, I don't. [812] 988-9761

Gonna buy a can for the newest addition to my family. My 700 SPS .308

Let's hear the recommendations. I'd like to keep the total cost under $1K including the stamp.

That one was at the top of my list.

What is the difference between quick detach and thread mount?

just as it sounds. one screws on threads on your barrel the other has a piece that is always on your barrel and the can just locks onto it instead of screwing on

How much do you want to spend? If you are planning on putting it on lots of different firearms, then you have to add the cost of a quick detach mount to the cost of the barrel threading or every gun. I don't see the quick detach being worth the money' but that's me. My .22 can goes on several different guns, often times during the same range trip. I know guys who have a .30 cal can and it basically only comes off of a rifle once or twice a year. The quick attach part is valid, but after a few quick shots, you'll need a welding glove for the quick detach part! I"m happy with my thread on .22 can, enough so that my .30 cal can is the same way.
