Lets see what your backyard range looks like. Here's my 50 yarder out back. Shoot my AK or .308 winchester. Most fun and economical shooting tin cans or hanging clays with my Marlin 60.

Yea marijuana, thats how I afford to live on enough acreage to go out back and shoot. Has nothing to do with 50 hour 6 day work weeks. Seriously, I lived in NW Indy for 7 years. I admired my guns quite a bit. Never again.

    You guys need some steel....;)

I wish I had a range at home. My buddy wants to put one up at his place, but we haven't had the time to mess with it yet...

    The highlights-

    15 Truck tires
    7 Skid-Steer Tires
    8 ton #23 Sand
    3 ton #8 Stone
    100' Conveyor Belt
    10' Road Widener Belt
    Treated 6' Dog-Eared Boards
    ALOT OF SWEAT!!!!!!!!

Just got it finished, a little over-engineered, but I like it. Works great, can get 25 off the deck, and up to 50 in the yard.

Husband and I stopped there while we were staying at McCormick's Creek earlier this week (we needed an adventure with some a/c on the way!). We were saddened by the obvious absence of any kind of target holder - it seems everyone just uses the trash can. :dunno: It is certainly nice and secluded, but the broken beer bottles didn't make me want to try any prone work, even with a mat. BUT a beautiful area. It looked like the DNR is working on buying some of the land that was previously leased to them - I think you should buy some land across the street and make a real range!

Sadly, though, I can't really say much. I live in town not too far from an elementary school. No room for a range. We keep dreaming of buying some land and building one, though. Some day... At least our area is rural enough that we could buy some land and visit it a couple days a week without needing to drive too far.

lovemywoods and I have built a range on his property, and we are both very proud of it. We also enjoy sharing it with INGOers through such events as NFA Day and the recently hosted MDFI courses.

Actually, its more like 4 ranges.

The 'main' range uses the lake dam as a large frontal backstop, with rising hills on the two sides, giving us 180 degree shooting. Front-to-back is 25 yards, and side-to-side is 50 yards.

Here is when we installed several water drainage lines underground:

The next range runs along the top length of the dam, giving us easy access to 50 yards for sighting in rifles.

The third range starts in the middle of the dam, shooting to the other side, which is 206 yards away. This allows the rifles to stretch out and breathe a little bit.

The fourth range, and clearly the most redneck :D, is a cropping of hanging steel plates, shot from the elevated back porch. (I can't find a picture of the plates, just Kr_Treefrog2 poppin' muskrats)

And of course, every private range needs stuff to shoot at/on/with. lovemywoods is excellent at building stuff, and no detail is too minor.
