Nope...smart. My sleepy city just has a Jehova Witness expo. Worst thing that gets damaged here is doorbells and door knockers.

Public Safety Director Frank Straub was on the news this morning talking about the shootings downtown. I was pleasantly surprised with what he said.

He did not blame the guns. I expected him to say the gun jumped up on its own and started shooting

He blamed it on 2 main things:
1. Parents letting underage kids run the streets at night
2. ILLEGAL guns (every gun involved was being carried illegally)



Hopefully there will not be a knee jerk reaction of "we need more gun control"

What I didn't like hearing from him was talking about setting up SAFETY ZONES just like they will do for the Superbowl and the they did for Final Four this year. I don't see any reason why I should be deprived from attending these events( not IBE,mind you) just because I take the safety and security of my family as my responsibility.

A great day had by all. Plenty of German Beer, crowds walking around, antique tractors and NO SHOOTINGS!!!!!

Actually, I was referring to the appearance and actions of the punks downtown that any normal decent human being would find ridiculous and repulsive.

Did you see the ages of those kids. Where is the Parent Control that is needed. If these kids were not accompanied by a parent then I think the parents of the 16 yr old kids and younger should be locked up.
Was this a concert they all went to? Ok so I guess you can carry a gun with you now to these concerts and not be searched in any way shape or form?? Metal detectors??
Same old sh@@ just different year. IT amazes me how they actaully know where the gangs are but yet they dont bust them up.
I know I make it sound so simple but after all the years of knowing about gangs it is not getting any better. Doesnt sound to me like they are anymore prepared to prevent this from any other year.

Do you know several other large cities rejected Black Expo before it came to Indy?

Do you know that Indy pays Black Expo to come here?

Do you know of any other event (Indy has a bunch of big events) which requires "almost 400 officers" (per Lt. Jeff Duhamell) on duty downtown on a Saturday night?

Do you know how that manpower compares to a normal Saturday night downtown?

Do you know that the large majority of the people arrested are locals?

Do you know anybody who works in the service industry (restaurants/ hotels/etc) downtown? If so, solicit their opinion!

Of course, you know who picks up the tab for all the additional emergency/security services required...............don't you?

I know the answers to some, but not all, of the above. Just imagine the worst case scenario and you'll be pretty close.

i dont know either, but there were a couple members in the "what are you doing to prepare for black expo this year?" that had several facts or atleast throwing some out there.

According to the video linked by Fenway in this post elsewhere, it appears that there were only black people in that immediate area.
Given that, I'd hazard a "black on black" guess.
However, at one point, it looks like there may be a mix of people on the other side of a windowed wall, but the camera pans so fast, I can't tell. Maybe somebody else will have better luck deciphering that.
