My take back from the thread

-They might push at you one time and be driven off, but the second time you will push back till they are gone.

-If you are three months into a shtf event, you better have some snag points or plans to deal with problems before they get to your place. I'm thinking a zone defense.

I like the idea of making the drive on your place littered with problems to slow them down. Just remember, you might have a friend show up and you don't want them to get hurt.

As for a zone defense, get your USGS maps or equivalent of your specific area and learn the elevations and make some range cards of your open areas like snipers make range cards with the distance. Buy a few more maps to draw on to show things you have set up and the choke points...etc. I like a well thought out plan.

Then one early morning you hear a diesel engine and see this coming down the road. It is one of these choices, how you going to stop them from getting close to your place?

If I heard diesels but saw horses, I'd either be thinking it was a diversion, or I'd be marveling at diesel-powered horses.

Say three months into SHTF event some desparate people discover you have stuff they want, and have probed a few times to try and take it. You have pushed back this small group several times and they have taken losses.

You are in a rural area, hills and trees and your house is 800 feet from the road.

Then one early morning you hear a diesel engine and see this coming down the road. It is one of these choices, how you going to stop them from getting close to your place?

Your first mistake was assuming you could just live in your house and everything would be OK Your second was getting caught. That means:

You probably didn't preplan and set mine fields capable of stopping any of the aforementioned systems.
You probably didn't build any entrapments to stop or slow advance.
You probably didn't properly range your property and have weapons already dialed in to those ranges.
You probably didn't split up your gear so that if you lost one pile you still had 99 left elsewhere.
You probably didn't boobytrap your house and plan an escape route so that when they entered they all died and you could go get their stuff.

Lot's of things you probably didn't do that you could have.

Mines and other IEDs are quickly and easily improvised in a field expedient manner. Given that actually doing many of those methods is not legal and will draw unwanted attention from the authorities, I suspect Fenway would prefer such discussions not take place here. Regardless, there are many, many sources of such information readily available. A prudent survivalist or prepper will have such information available should the need arise.

A creative survivalist or prepper can come up with half a dozen ideas without exerting much thought.

Note the used the special Purple protection color...lol

I just remember the press saying what people have purchased at gunshows, however I've never seen them for sale at those places.

I saw the purple, but the underlying question of where such things can be obtained is still a valid question for the person planning on surviving major societal collapse.

If after 3 months and you've been attacked before and knew where it came from and where it was now, then it's offense time. Train people how to really use their rifles from a distance and there's just not a whole lot people on the other end can do about it.

If they know where you are and you know they're coming for you there are two main choices that come to my mind depending no how many people you have. 1.) If it's just me and my wife and kids, we're hitting the road with what supplies we can carry leaving some nasty bobbytraps back at the house. 2.) If we've got enough supplies worth fighting over and enough people to have a realistic defense/counter attack then it's on. Ranges should be known and sharpshooters should be strategically placed about. Lesser marksmen get the support weapons and get to lay down cover fire.

I think you can still buy AP factory ammo in 308 can't you? If not the reloading components are out there. It wouldn't be needed if the tractor was alone, but more than likely it'd have plenty of support from multiple directions.

It's a scenario like this that would remind me of my time spent as a combat engineer. Boobytraps and IED's would be in order to defend the homestead. Making obstacles, bottlenecks, and alarms along the perimeter would be job #1. Nasty, nasty stuff can be easily made out of common household items.

This kind of situation is exactly what I hope my family and I never see.

I have just started reading the book Secure Home by Joel Skousen. Some good points and some eye opening points.

At the moment I'm screwed. If I follow his ideas my chances improve.

I'll second that book. Def some additional supplies that need to be stockpiled in advance for securing the homestead.

I was in a communications unit, and we strung a lot of comm wire. We were told we had to bury or elevate our wire when crossing non-paved roads because the tracked vehicles would get tangled in the wire and throw a track.

    Just sayin'... ;)

Never heard of that, but that's probably the best suggestion yet for a tracked vehicle.

Concealed booby traps and an ambush. If they're going to loot you, they have to get out of the vehicle at some point. It's hard to pick your stuff up from inside the killdozer.

While it makes for interesting speculation, I think distance is your friend here. Those aren't the most fuel efficient of vehicles so problems would be limited to thier range on a tank of gas. The old saying of not having to out run the bear but just be faster than the other guy applies here.;)

well if you have this guy parked in your garage you can easily get away from them, or it would make patroling your property much safer.
