Bad Experience with Carmel PD

Ah...I'm beginning to understand.

Carmel self-defense is different from self-defense in the real world.

Carmel has Wine & Cheese self-defense.

Why didn't somebody tell me? If I'd have known that I'd have whacked the mutt with a bottle of Dom Perignon and I'd have walked.

A while ago someone wrote a fictional conversation concerning my case. This is how that conversation would have taken place between cops who have some real world experience.

Lieut: What was that "shots fired" caper you had before?

Sergeant: Nothing...guy was attacked by a mean dog. He fired a shot into the ground to get it off of him.

Lt: Fired a shot? What happened?

Sgt: The shooter saw his neighbor's dogs loose in his back yard. He knows they're mean, and he was afraid they'd hurt someone or maybe get hurt by a car. He went outside and tried to pen them up. He no more than got outside then they started chasing a woman in the neighborhood and scared the hell out of her. He was just about to get them back in the neighbor's yard when one of them went after him and got him by the leg.

Lt: Was he hurt?

Sgt: Nah, but the dog wouldn't let him go, and he was sure as hell going to get hurt if he didn't do something, so he pulled a .45 sixgun and turned around and fired one in the ground.

Lt: He didn't shoot the dog?

Sgt: No...they belong to the guy next door, and they get along. The owner has kids too, so the shooter didn't want to play the bad guy and kill the dogs. He just wanted them to let him go. He didn't have to kill them so he chose not to. It was his leg and his call. Besides, there were bystanders in that direction so he couldn't take the shot.

Lt: Shot hurt anything?

Sgt: Not unless he capped an earthworm or a mole.

Lt: How about the dog owner? Did you cite him for letting the dogs run?

Sgt: He wasn't letting the dogs run. They busted out of the yard. Anyway, he's moving out of town and he's taking the mutts with him. There's nothing to be gained by citing him.

Lt: So all that happened was that the first guy blew a hole in his yard, and it's his yard, right?

Sgt: That's it.

Lt: Cool...how fresh is that coffee?

Actually this is the type of conversation that should have gone on between you and the city cop that came out. I have always wondered why he had such a hard on for you.

the role of ALL government is to enforce the laws of the federal and state constitutions. This is a REPUBLIC and NOT a democracy!!!!! OC is allowed under the state constitution and shall not be infringed. also its the cities responsibility to pass ordinances in line with state law!

I always assume that most officers give each other a little professional courtesy. My Uncle has told me some stories. But that was mostly in the old days. Maybe times have changed.

Yep, they have.

But I sure want to make clear that although, being an old-timer, I want professional courtesy from other LEOs, but I DON'T want special treatment. Self-defense is the same for everybody.

An arrest in this case wasn't just inappropriate for me. It would have been the same for a butcher, a baker, or a candlestick maker.

According to the City Barrister (X) Laws are Enforced so as Not to offend the Gentile Yuppies Perception of the World. I moved where I am the King of all that I Peruse and it's Great

So, cops are called to investigate a "suspicious" black guy walking down the sidewalk of Main Street in Carmel. They suggest he move along, and then cite him for some bogus charge. When his wife a kids come out of the shop, purchases in hand, the suspect explains the situation. They're all flabbergasted.

Fast forward to after they guy wins his case in court and has the charges dropped. The losing prosecutor says: "Black folk living and shopping in Carmel is uncommon... most people want it that way."

Carrying a firearm is a constitutionally-protected right. I don't give a damn what the majority of people in Carmel want. That's why we have laws.

At least, that's how I thought it was supposed to work.

As much as I despise those DAZs and the lawmakers who create them, at least they're based in law, not on some sort of implied activism by cops and the courts.

DWB was alive and well in Carmel "back in the day" The city ran out a Target store by pulling over its ethnic employees several times a week, each, despite complaints to City Hall from the Managers(sorry, "Team Leaders").

Seems to me prejudice, at least of another type, is alive and well in Carmel.

I think I may have to rescind my previous "integrity" comment..

Ahhhh, is this the summation of the "privileged" discussions that went into deciding to try this trainwreck?

Let me get this straight; the city paid its attorneys as well as hiring outside counsel to (unsuccessfully) prosecute an OV ticket because "we ain't like you people"?

Sarge, it's a story as old as self-defense...I moved here to be with a lady.

A lady, who by the way, saw the shot and testified about it, thereby shooting down the "officer's" perjury stating that I shot in front of and not behind me.

She is one good old girl.

He must have gotten "uppity." I guess the people of Carmel want it that way.

Edit - I seem to recall that he also shook hands with a white woman.
