I just purchased a ruger 10/22 and was wondering what upgrades would actually make the rifle shoot better/more accurate, as in sights, trigger, stock, whatever. I love this rifle for a plinker or squirrel gun but I am just curious how I can make it even better. Thanks

Bull Barrel and Trigger for accuracy.

Would change the bolt release to the stock one sucks.

    Gun stock for comfort.

Go to Midway USA and do a search for 10/22 parts there are tons of aftermarket stuff.

A decent scope, a bolt buffer can reduce the massive kickback of the .22 :): and replacing the hammer can reduce trigger pull. Those are some cheap things to start with but an upgraded barrel, stock and bedding the receiver are the big ones. Really the possibilities are endless. I bought one about a month ago and I am obsessed with it. I may need help, just a heads up. ;)

The right ammo will make a world of differance also. Head to the range with as many different types/brands as you can find and start shooting.

First, upgrade the trigger. Mine came at 8.5 lbs from the factory. I put in a Volquartsen hammer for less than $50 and it dropped the trigger pull to 3 lbs. That made the biggest difference in accuracy. If it was just a shooter, I would stop there or add a scope if you like scopes.

If you want a race gun, then you can add a bull barrel, but to do that, you have to get a new stock. Yukon Extreme stocks are great and cost around $125 for cool thumbhole stocks.

HA HA if you can dream it up someone probably makes it. But as already stated barrel and trigger are the big two. Id say stock next. Welcome to the 10/22 sickness.

I would really like to keep just iron sights on this gun, I have others with scopes for longer shots if needed. I have been on midwayUSA and they have more components for the 10/22 than I can afford. I was curious as to which ones would actually help the accuracy of the gun and which ones were just for show. A trigger is on my list, also I wouldn't mind getting upgraded sights at some point.

If you want to keep iron sights go with a set of tech sights.

    Ruger® 10/22 Rifle - adjustable aperture sights

Also, sign up for an Appleseed shoot. That will do more for your accuracy than any gear.

aside from what's been mentioned I highly recommend a kidd cocking assembly if your going to shoot subsonics, as far as barrels I drink the tacsol cool:cool: aid and it tasted great.

If you're going to stick with cheaper is better, take a look over at rimfirecentral.com. There are several stickies on DIY mods as well as a wealth of information from guys who've built 'em by the dozen. The tech sights are worthwhile. Thats from personal experience. You can mod the trigger and bolt, as well as tune the extractor yourself with some common tools and a couple of stones. The one mod I'd farm out is to set back and rechamber the bbl. There's a fellow on RFC who goes by nemohunter who has made a couple of my stock bbls shoot like my Kidd. And that's no b/s. Classifieds over at RFC can be a gold mine for 10/22 stuff but you need to monitor it and be quick. The good stuff doesn't last long.:yesway:

Already signed up for an appleseed shoot in about a month. That was the main reason that I purchased the 10/22 to begin with, Now I can't get enough shooting it. I originally thought this was just another cheap 22 rifle but now I am kicking myself for not buying one years ago.

If you are going to an Appleseed then 1-1/4 sling swivels and a GI web sling is a must. Other upgrades that will help (in order of importance) Tech Sights($65); three good factory 10rd mags ($15 each); target hammer ($35); extended magazine release ($10-15);bolt release modification (Free if you want to do it yourself; $10-15 otherwise); buffer ($3-10). I think that you can buy a kit with several pieces in it.

Then make sure that your rifle is zeroed for 25m. Good luck!

Well I have 3 more factory magazines coming so that will give me 4 total. I have my sling set up ready to go, and I am going to get the tech sights before the appleseed shoot. I will have to kick around the idea of the trigger kit or the hammer kit to help the trigger pull. This was supposed to be my cheap gun, I can tell already that is not gonna happen :D
