Any interest in posting on these? I'll start, saw one Saturday in Illinois near Momence. Young white guy in an older van with three bicycles on the roof towing a small U-Haul trailer, Missouri plates on van. The sticker was well worn.

I was taking a class at IU South Bend in the fall of 2008. An Obama supporter took a black sharpie and wrote messages such as, "You are a racist if you vote for McCain - Obama 2008" and "Now is our time to rise up, take control and make the wealthy pay what they owe us! - Obama 2008."

I was amused because a) the author was defacing/destroying university property to send his message, which sent the meta-message that he had no respect for societal rules or common decency, b) the author was obviously attempting to improve his social standing or earning potential by pursuing an education, despite the fact that he would likely find himself in a higher tax bracket and more quickly becoming the "wealthy" that will be required to "pay" for their "sins," and c) most of the messages that I saw contained horrendous grammar and/or spelling, despite the fact that it was likely a student who authored them.

It would have been funny if it weren't so sad.

I try very hard to avoid political discussions and I won't weigh in where my political beliefs fall... But I am firmly convinced that the ironies I described above will never be realized by the person who wrote those messages and, while I hate to stereotype, that reality reflects poorly on anyone who agreed/agrees with his intended message.

The "One Big Ass Mistake America" sign is on a 4x8 sheet of plywood in a guys front yard on the east side of Loogootee. It has been there since a few days after the 2008 election. I smile every time I drive past it on my way to a project site.

Second the Bloomington sightings. Every day, every type of vehicle you can think of, from new to beater taped together with stickers about saving whales and making Tibet free.
