I went once in 10 years....then when I went back it has cost me $6k now. I'll be going every 3 months now thanks to the fact that I now have periodontal disease. YAY!

You don't just go to the dentist to drill out the rot in your teeth, but also to check for other oral diseases including cancer. A Prosecuting Attorney in a neighboring county beat oral cancer thanks to early detection via his dentist.

As well numerous studies have shown that oral health equates to overall health and heart health.

Brush three times a day, floss twice a day, use those floss swords, and scrub that tongue!

I just went to the dentist two weeks ago. Full cleaning and 4 bite wing x-rays cost me a grand total of $3.80 with insurance. The kid had the same thing and also fluoride, total for him $2.60. How can you not take care of your teeth and gums for that price?

I once went 15 years without going. At the last visit before that span, I was told that I had minor cavity forming, and that it wasn't serious yet but soon would be. Fifteen years later I was told exactly the same thing, lol.

Now I go every six months for a cleaning and exam, but I don't get x-rays. I only have one filling and I can't help but suspect that I didn't really need it since 15 years of ignoring it didn't seem to hurt anything.

every 6 months. My hygenist is kinda hot.....

    :postpics:

I hadn't been to the dentist in probably 7 years, call it a phobia, a hatred, whatever.

I have good dental insurance now and a great dentist that I highly recommend if you live in or around Bloomington. http://bloomingtongentledentist.com/

I went today. I had a couple small cavities filled. I used to hate the dentist. Now I go to the Bloomington Gentle Dentist, I have walked away with 2 positive experiences so far. I plan on going every 6 months now.

I pulled half of my teeth in 1987 and meth took the rest.

About cavities hurting, not always. I have a tiny one that hasn't changed in over a year and never any pain at all. I had a tooth that was cracked for 2-3 years (from a fight) and it wasn't overly painful and a piece of it was missing. I qualified for a low income clinic so I took advantage of it, broken tooth pulled and a couple cavities filled. Much cheaper than if I had insurance and 99% of the work was pain-free and was only mildly annoying because of the drive time/early appointments. Wasn't 100% satisfied because 1 filling got messed up (there wasn't a cavity but another place in Mishawaka really messed up a tooth with a small chip that I'd had for at least 10 years with no pain and no cavities) but that will be getting fixed next month and then it'll be cleanings.

I go to my regular dentist twice a year and the periodontist twice a year. In fact, I had my first cleaning at my new periodontist's office this morning.

I have never had dental insurance, but preventative maintenance is a lot cheaper than fixing problems after they get bad. Even if it wasn't, life without teeth is less than optimal. I want to keep what I have as long as possible.

Oh, and flossing is the most important thing you can do, even more so than brushing. Especially if you have periodontal disease or don't want to get it. Floss, floss, floss ... finesse over force.

Ehh, I didn't go for cleanings for more than 10 years. The woman doing my cleaning said I had one of the cleanest mouths she'd seen. I brush my teeth at least once a day but I don't always use just toothpaste. An unscented soap will do a MUCH better job of keeping your mouth clean than toothpaste. The taste is something you get use to pretty quick and you're not using a lot so it isn't that bad to begin with. It'll leave you feeling like you just had a professional cleaning.

And just to rub it in, here's Black Hairy Tongue:

Kids, brush your teeth thrice a day, floss twice daily, and scrub that tongue or this will happen to you!

Does anyone have any good recommendations for Indianapolis dentists? I have been in the city for 4 years now and have had 3 different dentists. I am currently on the NE side living in Fishers. Any suggestions near the NE or NW side would be great! Nice looking hygienists in the office is a bonus as well.

Simply Dental 11876 Olio rd. 317-570-2777, Dr. John Clauss, A long time friend of mine and a great guy, and his Girlfriend/receptionist is smokin hot and super friendly, don't know much about the hygienists but he would never hire ugly chicks. Tell him " Bucket sent ya" he'll know who it is.

I can't believe I missed this thread! :rockwoot:Oh boy, where do I start?

For those of you that haven't figured it out my user name is not "smile, do chill":):

My favorite dentists web site with way more patient oriented info than you would ever want to know is here... Ask Doctor Spiller, A Dentist With over 30 Years Experience
He isn't around here but his site is full of great info (not just cut and paste stuff like most others.)

I've only had about 3 or 4 patients in my 15+yrs that I really thought would not be taking a risk to have a cleaning every 1 year. Otherwise 6 months is really the longest you want to go for too many reasons to mention.
Did you guys know INGO has a dental plan for site supporters? :ingo:Did you think they took me on because of my computer skills? :n00b:Vast gun knowledge? :n00b::n00b:Interpersonal skills? :n00b:
