While I have always been pro 2A and loved shooting, I didn't really get into it until about a year ago. It was early spring so my timing was perfect for starting out. I got to head to the range whenever I wanted... I got spoiled.

This however is my first Winter since the rekindling of my love affair with firearms, and I am going through some serious withdrawal!

I ask, "IS IT ALWAYS THIS BAD?" I have cabin fever brought on from lack of trigger time. I know its bad when even my boys are asking if we are ever going to shoot again! Between weather, holidays and a few other factors, Winter Shooting Blues sucks!

Are there support groups for this kinda thing? Its my first winter, help!

A low powered airsoft gun and a resetting target indoors works wonders in bad weather as long as you don't mind having pellets scattered everywhere. I've put probably 5000 rounds through mine. I picked up a Beretta 92 pellet gun for $15 at Wal Mart.

I get the itch too, but I started reloading last year, so that helps a little. It's really a downer to see the ammo build up sometimes, but in a month or so I'll put a major dent in it.

I used to go shooting at least twice a month, but since my son was born in Aug 2010 I bet I havent been shooting more than 5 or 6 times. It really sucks. Being on INGO is the best I can do.

We go shooting in the winter too. Not when it is 9 degrees like today, but a couple of weeks ago it was cold but not horrible. Put on some under armor, some clothes, and some overalls and go shooting. Where we shoot we can get the car fairly close, so my wife even went and warmed up in the car from time to time. I didn't really notice the cold, she said her feet were cold. The next day I bought her two pairs of thick wool blend socks for 9$. I want to go today, but 9 degrees is probably too cold for the kids.

You can't shoot at an indoor range?
Limits you to hand guns or 22's but its shooting.

    Just saying...

Thats where the circumstances comes in. The only one close just went through new management. I was waiting, their prices are still too high. Might have to just suck it up and go!

    Just around the corner.
You guys bring up a good question for me. Is shooting in cold weather hard on the gun? You know, like taking it outside, then inside, back and forth like that.
What about when leaving your gun in the car all day, then warming it up when going somewhere? Does all the cold/warm cause any rusting?

I have never had any problems shooting in the cold and rust forming on my guns. But that is because i always clean them when we get home.

That's what i do...don't like paying it but shooting is a big stress relief of mine...so i give them their stinking 9 bucks...lol

I dont think the temps you are changing to are extreme enough to cause you problems, cold guns shoot, hot guns shoot.
If you are concerned about rust....give it a field stripping when you take it in for the night, after it warms up....and check it out. :)

My shooting hasn't slowed down yet. The weather has been on my side (so far) and my range is just out the back door, so for me , its been a great winter. Plus I've been teaching my niece to shoot clay pigeons for a school project, so that has actually added to my range time this winter.

I just dress warm and go shoot a few, may not stay as long but if I don't get some trigger time at least once a week I get grumpy. Winter shooting has it's own challenges so it's a bit different than summer which makes it fun.

Remember a hot barrel makes a great hand warmer! :)
