If you're not serving in this role, WHO CARES. LOL

It's like people just want to push their favorite pistol in the mix in some hope that the military will pick it because they feel that will re-assure them as to it's effectivenes or reliability...or like if it's not a weapon the military uses it's not good quality.....the military bases decisions against cost, that means they are not choosing the best overall weapon, they are choosing the best they can afford....... IMO, if you question your selection that much you either made a bad one, or need a lot more time behind that weapon

they are selecting these weapons to be used in SF operations, not for the entire military or even entire Marine Corps.....these roles have relatively easy access to choose other weapons.....it would be a different conversation if it were the entire branch or military

when did a 45 become a high maintenance rd?

Ya I know  My 45s are just as easily maintained as my 9s. Why dont they carry a revolver since they arent as high maintenance

Any one who feels outgunned by having a low maintainence 9mm needs to learn to shoot , if they feel put gunned Becuase someone else had a bigger bullet they should learn math.

I was waiting for this. I believe according to the Geneva Convention our troops can only use ball ammo otherwise its regarded as inhumane. That said fmj 9mm vs fmj 45 acp Id pick 45 because it wont over penetrate as much and the wound channel would be bigger. Mostly cause of the penetration issue though. Then the Redneck part of me says things like " Merica dont speak no Metric" and " They all fall to the 45 ball". That said I do own both 9 and 45 but my EDC is a 45. 9mm can be very mean as a HP but a +p 45 HP is very mean as well. We are Civies so we can use these. Ammo superiority doesnt really matter to me as I dont even want to get shot by a 22 cb short.

refresh my memory, DI is the old school gas tube probably in the M16A1/2 back in my day?

Newer AR's like LWRC can run on piston like the AK?

there a few manufacturers that make piston uppers now....most are still DI by far.....but as with the MC's new rifle, I'd highly recommend the piston upper because it keeps so much heat transfer back to the bolt/receiver...meaning it is less prone to damage and will likely last a lot longer

At the end of the day I can understand going from a 7rd 45 to a 15rd 9mm because there's something to be said for more bullets. Now the next evolution would be to get a 45 that held 15rd and get the best of both worlds. I've got nothing but love for the 1911, but if I were heading back and got to pick my own pistol I'd look at the 45's with the highest capacities like glock, XD, FN, Para P-14's, etc. Why would we take a step back in ammo capacity? That's the part that just doesn't seem reasonable to me.

The current standard M9 is a Beretta which is made in Italy, so I'm pretty sure they don't give a $&@# about whether it's made in USA or not

You should check up on that. Part of the contract with Beretta stated that the M9 had to be completey asembled in the US. NOT imported. some of the 92 models along with alot of the smaller Berettas are still made in Italy. But pick up an M9 in any LGS and look at it. It will say Made in USA.

I hope so also. If it's based on the best and not price then it will be a HK !

Opinionated just a little are we?

My Sig P220 has gone well into 1k close to 2k rnds without a single foul up. Regardless of ammo.

And it didnt cost $2000.00 like an HK.

I bet you drive a BMW too dont you.

That being said, They should go with the CZ 97BD and truly get the best there is.

Its an interesting note that the last time this happened th Sig P-226 actually Beat the Beretta 92 during the tests for the new army sidearm but do to manufacturing costs they went with the Beretta. So its likely that will happen this time as well.

They will settle for the best product they can get at a reasonable price point and imho that would be this.

    FNP-45 tactical.

THe reason I care is that I am far past tired of the government being allowed to continue to make bad choices. There is no benefit to the .45.

9mm has killed many people, nato spec ball 9mm is every bit as potent at .45 ball, but 9mm handguns gold more rounds, tent to weigh less and have more pleasent recoil for the smaller shooters.

    9mm is cheaper.

the M&P 45 is not my choice of a sidearm, but it is a better and cheaper choice than a 1911.

Lol beretta has a huge factory in maryland iirc.

And where does the profit go? It doesn't help to buy American made stuff if the profit all goes overseas. These days, with the global reach of big corporations, I am not even sure we can count on American firms to keep the profit in America.

The 97 is a good gun, but it would make a better club.
