The rule is usually that 51% or more of your gun has to be showing to be official OC.
Just the barrel showing a bit under your shirt is still CC.

I thought that was called halfassed carry... :):

That's what I call "shy OC" or COC for Concealed Open Carry.
I guess people do that when they are not sure about going from CC to full OC.
So they show the gun a bit more each day, over the course of a few years, until they fully OC.

I CC. There is no point in making everyone you are around nervous. And yes, people get nervous when they see an OC. When I see an OC, my first impression is "showing off". This isnt the old west days (now, dont get pissed), so, my opion, is CC.

Too bad that wasn't what the OP was asking, but thanks for playing anyway. If you want to CC, then go ahead, nobody is judging you. Why do you feel the need to criticize those who don't do it just like you? Judging someone's character and accuse them of showing off and trying to be a cowboy just because they carry a certain way? Do you accuse cops of being cowboys, showing off, and intimidating the public?

Go ahead and get off your high horse and encourage others to exercise their rights even if you don't feel like doing it the same way.

I know this is purple, but for anyone thinking this is fact, this comment is meant to be a joke and has no basis in Indiana law.

To answer the OP, there are no regulations on Open carry. You can OC anywhere you can CC. Indiana has a License To Carry Handgun which allows you to carry. There is no distinction between Open or Concealed carry. That means that you follow State and Federal guidelines about WHERE you can carry, and as long as you can carry there, it can either be open or concealed.

If you travel to another state, you may want to look up their laws, but in Indiana, you are good to go.

ya lets stay away from the mine is better than urs debate. i choose to CC beacuse i like to keep the element of suprise. others carry open because they more comfy wit that in the grand scheme of things. and like i said i c very good points in both ideals. I value peoples opinion so i was just wondering. so please share ur opinions on either/or but please dnt bash other peoples choices.

In Indiana, at least, there are no laws governing the manner of carry. Well, other than not in your hand and pointing at someone. That tends to get noticed.

That said, how you carry YOURSELF when you OC can spell the difference between just another day, or dealing with the sheep and their minions. Carry with confidence, don't act nervous, don't keep checking it (it is still where you put it), and at least try to look halfway together. People judge strangers on how they look and act. If you look out of place, you might well get an MWAG call. If you look like the gun belongs on your hip, many folks will assume all is well an go back to grazing.

My :twocents:, as someone who carries every day - sometimes I hide it, and sometimes I don't.
