So I am in Walmart and the young guy behind the counter where I am buying my ammo is a prime example of why no to ask advise from Walmart employees.

    He said:

No one under 18 can buy a handgun in a private sale.

All handguns in Indiana are registered when the sale is made private or otherwise.

To buy ammo you have to show your ID. Everywhere in the United States regardless of your age.

It is unethical not to tell the police you are carrying a handgun.

He had a whole host of other things he said that had me shaking my head as well. The only reason I bought there is because their ammo was way less than Cabelas or Dicks.

I'm really starting to think of buying ammo from other sources so I don't have to hear all the Fat Heads make comments based upon what they think they know.

Did he just all the sudden start spouting all this stuff off, or were you talking with him about the stuff. Ive found it best to just show them what i want pay and leave.

I had an older gentleman selling me ammo when one of my kids yanked my shirt. A different female walmart employee noticed my 1911 on my hip and started yelling at me. The older employee that was selling me ammo promptly told her to shut up, I was allowed to even carry it unconcealed if i wanted to.

Part of it was my fault. When He asked me for my ID I asked him if I looked anywhere near 21 (I am 45 and look it) That's when he said it was the law and a discussion went back and forth as he began to show how much he really didn't know.

Ah.. I got ya. Yea I stumbled into one of those "types" of conversations a year or so back with one young guy that worked at the Wal-Mart were I live. Needless to say you can fix stupid! I just bite my tounge, pay for my stuff and leave. If they didnt sell hand gun ammo so cheap belive me Id never buy any ammo from there.

I remember when I was a young kid, I was certain I knew it all and had all the answers too. He'll figure out how ignorant he really is as he gets older.

lol... this made me chuckle because I don't know how many times I've run across the type of people who feel compelled to be experts in subjects they don't know about.

But we can get written up or even fired if we sell to anyone underage, and are trained to ask for ID no matter how old you look. Sometimes the register won't even let us continue until we put in a birthdate.

I see that question come up on the register display when I check out, but they never have asked to see any ID...it must be my rugged, mature good looks:D

Usually if I have one of my kids with me, they don't ask. I even started taking out my ID once, and the guy said, 'ahhh, I don't need to see that. I know your old enough.' :)

the employee was right on ammo sales
Under the GCA, long guns and long gun ammunition may be sold only to persons 18 years of age or older. Sales of handguns and ammunition for handguns are limited to persons 21 years of age and older. Although some State and local ordinances have lower age requirements, dealers are bound by the minimum age requirements established by the GCA. If State law or local ordinances establish a higher minimum age, the dealer must observe the higher age requirement. [18 U.S.C. 922(b)(1), 27 CFR 478.99(b)]
