Actually, the problem is not that law abiding citizens in these neighborhoods are being targeted by the criminals. The criminals are fighting each other and law abiding citizens are getting caught in the crossfire.

Yes, law-abiding citizens should be allowed to be armed and protect themselves, but there is a war going on in these neighborhoods. Armed citizenry alone cannot solve this problem unless they are willing to risk death and prison themselves and take the law into their own hands.

For those that have not been to these neighborhoods, it is no joke. If your car breaks down, your life will be in danger. For many, it is easy to ignore the problem but I believe action needs to be taken and an interagency response is a start.

How is that any worse than getting killed on the streets by the aforementioned hoodlums?

What I mean is that more than self-defense would be required. Ordinary citizens would basically need to become undercover agents to find out who the leaders are and take them out.

My take: "Uber Liberal city mayor admits the Left's stance on crime unworkable without massive infusion of Federal jack-bootery."

I think if the common proles in Chicago were armed and the realization that the government can't help them were trumpetted in the media, they would rise up out of, if nothing else, raw fear and self-preservation instinct, to end the criminal element definitively, rather than continue to cower in their homes with the vain prayers of, "The government will save us. The government will save us. One of these days, the government will save us."

As I recall, we had to flood Gary with State Troopers a few years back to get that city under control. Why is this a Federal problem. Let the state of Illinois take care of it. The people over there made their bed, its time for them to lie in it.

Glad you brought that up. But there aren't enough Illinois State Police to make a dent in the South Side cesspool of crime. My son just recently moved from just outside the Loop to the Near Northside (again). Apparently, the South Side troubles don't affect much of the rest of the City.

It's all Indiana's fault. Or at least that's what the jackwagon politician I heard yesterday say. (did not catch his name. Illinois Senator,on the Roe Conn show) He wants to close Indiana's "gunshow loophole", that sells guns to felons, the insane, and terrorists. Newsflash- Chicago has a criminal problem, not a gun problem.

I have no doubt that this is a very serious situation. Unfortunately, Law Abiding Citizens within the city limits are subject to a gun ban that prohibits them from protecting themselves in this manner. However, the greater concern is that this is a federal action to resolve a state/city matter. It is a dangerous precedent.

But once again, how is that my problem? The taxpayers of Chicago and Illinois need to fund adequate police to clean up the mess they have allowed to form there. These liberal utopias need to pay the price of their past decisions.

ETA: Unless you are saying that since it is only affecting a small area and the problem will work itself out eventually, they are just going to ignore it... I guess I can see the libtards thinking that way. Hardly seems fair to the law abiding folks that might be stuck in that cesspool though.

    :D

But which side will Gary and East Chicago be on?

A preferable legacy that that faced by Rahm Emanuel, as he prepares to federalize law enforcement in his city (tacitly admitting that he cannot govern Chicago).

We could always trade them out in exchange for some downstate real estate that they treat like conquered provinces.

We could always build that wall all the way around Chicago and then fill it with water.

    Or boiling oil?

Calumet River, diverted to the West to join with the Chicago R., on north of Evanston or Lake Forest and back to the Lake. Color it bright green all year 'round.

No guns go in, no refugees go out (without visas at least). :yesway:

    Win-win situation.

All of the above in PURPLE OF COURSE.;)
