As for your last question, this is the point at which I stop defending the police.

Unless he has some reasonable suspicion to suspect me of some crime then there is no reason to disarm me. The fact that I carry a gun brand that is unfamiliar to most, with factory deactivated/disabled safeties, means my gun takes a bit more care to handle than guns that look similar. I'd hate to see 'officer unfriendly' blow off his big toe because he was unfamiliar with my carry weapon.

Frank just cannot get over his fixation with thinking that servant means servile or menial. This is why it is pointless to even discuss the issue with him. He denies the very concept of public service.

It is like arguing with the lady who calls the newsroom to complain about the way the unicorns are being treated down at the circus that has come into town for the week. It's entertaining to discuss the issue with her on the phone but ultimately the unicorns are still being mistreated after you hang up.

My "fixation" was in direct response to ThrottleJockey's statement that I should act like a servant. Maybe it is you that can't get over it.

Frank, you DO NOT pay taxes on the income you receive as a police officer. Any income derived from public coffers IS taxes therefore by returning a tiny portion of them you aren't paying but rather just getting paid less than you were told. It is an accounting trick used for centuries or longer to convince people of something that isn't true. To make them feel as though they are contributing while at the same time making them feel as though they are earning more than they really are. Also convincing the more ignorant of the populace that cops pay taxes. It's sort of like a fast food joint giving someone that works hard a "title" in lieu of a salary increase, makes them feel special enough to ignore the fact that they are working harder for the same or less money than the FNG.

I'll gladly show you my paycheck if you really believe I don't pay income tax on my salary.

Being a fellow Government employee I get the same crap from some people.

One thing I don't understand, is why these people just cannot be respectful to a LEO when stopped regardless of the situation. The more you respect them the more they will respect you. The 3 times I have been stopped, since I was 21 that was lot of years ago, I have informed them showed them my permit/license and was never ask to disarm myself. The officers thanked me for informing them and we went about our business.

You must give respect to get respect. Respect is earned it is not a right.:soapbox:

OMFG! Every dime of that paycheck was collected as taxes before it was given to you. If you take the NET amount of the paycheck, that is ALL you made. The gross is completely irrelevant due to the fact that it IS taxes. You RECEIVE taxes as a salary therefore you cannot contribute to the tax coffers but rather deduct from them. Let's say for example that everyone collects a paycheck from the government and has a portion taken out under the pretense of being "taxes". Now, how long will this go on before the coffers are empty since everyone is "paying taxes"? This is like 4th grade math for Christs sake. Why don't public servants understand money or where it comes from? How they got it? Or MATH? Could it be this? Court Oks Barring High IQs For Police - Labor Relations Information System

Here, I'll try to explain it another way. Let's pretend there is one big central "bank account". Now let's pretend every time someone that isn't a public servant gets a paycheck, they deposit a portion of it into the central account. Now let's pretend that every public employee (we'll call them that for the sake of this scenario since you have such difficulty with the word servant) goes to the central account and fills out a withdrawal slip each pay period. When he/she goes to the counter with their withdrawal slip in the amount of what they were told they could take out, the banker then tells them he'll have to give them a smaller amount instead. Which amount was the public employees earnings, the one he put on the withdrawal slip or the amount he actually got from the account? Now let's pretend everyone makes withdrawals and no one makes deposits any longer (everyone works for the government now in this part). Will the account eventually be empty even though each individual took out less than he was told he could at the bankers insistence?

Not quite what I mean by "higher level of service" lol.

    Put it this way.

Due to perceived or very real pressure from upper "management":

Rich influential guy calls the cops and wants something done....

much more likely to have something done than:

Poor guy who calls the cops and wants something done.

For example, kid from very poor neighborhood goes missing versus kid from rich affluent family goes missing. One has a very good chance of getting the royal police treatment and may even garner national support and attention. The other will be lucky to get anything more than a basic missing persons report.

Doesn't happen that way. We receive complaints from all over the city. We read them as "extra patrols" in roll calls and then give them to their respctive "beat officers". As far as missing children, we pull out the stops for missing children from 12 on down. We actively look for these children until they are found. Not by 1 or 2 officers but all available units no matter what type of child it is. Detectives are called in to assist and County helps when they can.

In other words "rich and influential people" don't really get special treatment here. I can't and won't jeopardize my job because some special person turns up driving drunk and we fail to do something.

But wait, it says something entirely different on the internet!

just like the word servant has menial listed as a synonym

Again, a prime example of a fixation with only one of many possible meanings.

unfortunately the word "menial" was specifically denied as being connected with being a servant.

Really? Perhaps you can find that and quote it. Or perhaps not, since you just made that up from thin air.

He still pays the tax. Yes it doesn't leave the pool of money, but it still gets issued and deducted. It would be cheaper if he didn't pay any tax and the money wouldn't get funneled through all the channels just to return to the same general place, but that's government for you. The public safety budget is entirely different than the general fund. By him working, it takes money from the public safety budget and allocates it to him, they then take whatever percent of it back and transfer that to the general fund.

You are a servant and should behave as one when dealing with individuals that have broken no law nor given you reason to believe they have or are about to. In my statement, I also don't recall pointing specifically at YOU. It seems like you have much bigger issues than not understanding the first thing about money or taxes but I already knew that. I suggest you need to do a bit of soul searching and decide if you really want to continue as a police officer in light of the fact that they exist to serve the people. Would you keep doing it if the constant pats on the back ceased? They will one day soon you know.

A damn shame, if true. Regardless though, I would lay this at the feet of the political appointees much higher up the food chain than ascribe it to any individual officer on the street.

Such is the nature of mankind since civilization started. I would venture to say that our country has less of it than many other places throughout history, but until human nature changes, t the golden rule will always favor those who have the gold.
