I'm guessing that the ammo factories around the world are all running at least at 110% capacity. But our retailers have practically none of the stuff most of us are looking for. Not to mention the price of it when something does come dribbling in.

Where's it all being shipped to? Is the government getting it all? Somebody out there must know.

I think we might be able to figure it out if we see what the retailers are saying. Can you pick out the pattern?

Hence, the purple. Get rid of DHS and hoarders and what is left???
    You guessed it, the flippers.

It would be interesting to see % of flippers/stockpilers.

I suspect that there are quite a few simply buying and holding onto it as opposed to selling it. Many people are just now starting their stockpile.

I personally don't have a problem with people buying to stockpile their own supply. I encourage it. I just hope they aren't doing it at these outrageous prices.

Yeah - wouldn't be particularly smart. Even Gander Mountain prices (when it's in stock) are good enough for me to be stockpiling, with the possible exception of .22lr, but I've got plenty of that for a while.

Yeah, cause the government is buying all of the .22LR, .30-30, .22-250, 22 mag, etc.

The government buys ammo, big surprise there. They place a huge order every other year, does it mean it gets filled? No. Also, for placing an order that big for ammo, it's easier to get a bulk price on ammo if there are several agencies buying ammo through them too.

    It's not the freaking government.

It's people, consumers. After the shooting in December and all the talk from ignorant politicians how many gun owners do you think is in America now? How many guns are in circulation now?

Picture per every firearm someone owns, they was 100 rounds of ammo. By that reasoning let's say you want 1200 rounds of various ammo. Well how much does your neighbor? How much for his neighbor? It just keeps going and going. And thats just 100 rounds. Imagine people wanting 1000s of rounds. Or people who shoot a lot and who need 5000 rounds per gun? Or even greater.

It's all round the country, people are buying ammo. It's just put a huge strain on the ammo supply.

Also, with the diminished supply, what little ammo does hit the shelf, people buy really quick because they think "hey, hard telling the next time I'll see any, plus it's only a box, and it's fairly cheap, what the hell, I'll pick it up".

Simple answer, the US population is where all the ammo is going. Actually kind of makes me proud knowing that there's so damn many of us that we can cripple the supply of a commodity overnight and keep it that way for months :D

In the midst of an ammo crisis I have successfully added another caliber to my collection with about 500 rounds in my stock pile and didn't overpay at all!

9.4 million new gun owners in the last 4 months is what the NRA tweeted to me. I have no idea where all the ammo is at.

Get out of the stone age people, streaming media is available to all who are not afraid of the government looking over your shoulders. Dose anybody have any questions about where reloading supplies are at? Pretty sure I can figure that one out also.

I saw it speculated that the .gov was using the 1.6 billion order to dry up supply. It's merely a bid, they don't actually have that much, and it's unknown quantity, unknown time, so if the stuff starts leaking out to the mere mortals, all they have to do is call in another 50 million, and since according to the contract they're first in line, they get it. Problem, though, is it's just a few calibers, .40SW, 9x19, 5.56x45, so why is almost everything scarce? It's just people buying in a frenzy. I thought ahead "what if this donkeyhole gets reelected?" and ordered 7 cases of various back when it was priced normally. Just need some more primers and powder.
