If it is to be for hunting I am curious why you do not wish to have a compound bow. Just wondering.
Traditional archery is hard to explain but it's special. It's kind of like fly fishing and flintlocks...There is a beauty in simplicity and a tradition that is thousands of years old..Plus once you learn to shoot one you never look at a compound bow the same way again...I guess it's really about getting back to
"two sticks and a string".
In answer to the OP's question go ten pounds lighter than you think on pull. 40-50 pounds should be about right. Also remember your draw length will be shorter with a longbow or recurve.
