I know a couple McCordsville LEOs and they're definitely Pro 2A and gun people. How they perform their duties on a stop I have NO idea but as everyday Joes they're OK.

    Left, left, left, right, left.

I was just following orders.... Rings a bell

I just don't understand these guys that follows orders when they are plain wrong.

Maybe. Did you clearly refuse consent? If not, you silence could be construed as consent.

He did not even ask, in fact I had no idea of what his intentions really were until he reached in the car lifted up my shirt and just took it. Being in the car had with the door shut had no choice, no where to go. If I woudl have got out that would have made matters worse. That is when i asked why he was taking my weapon and he stated policy and officer safety. After he took it out of the holster I told my son that him taking my weapon was illegal. He had to hear it since he was rigth there, no response from the LEO.

I have OC'd at CVS and Speedway when LEO's are in the store with no problems. I have never seen this guy before today.

I'm sorry for your experience. Coming from one of the "king's men" it probably doesn't mean much, but I can assure you that not all of us act the same way and do our best to educate those that are ignorant of the law.

You definitely need to have Guy on the case and you need to file a complaint with the chief.

Sent Guy a PM and I know all LEO's are not like this. In fact, your jobs are hard enough that was I generally let them know I am carrying. Twice before I stopped by the ISP I informed and they just asked me to keep my hands where they could see them. When done they both asked what I carried and short conversation ensued and then have a nice day..

I will file a complaint just as soon I hear back from Guy. I will hand deliver the complaint when I pay the fine to the town.

Did he rummage through anything else to check and see if other items were stolen property or just the gun?

Just took my gun and guess what, it wasn't stolen. When he have it back to me he said it was clean and I could re-arm myself at anytime. My son sais I should have gotten out of the car and walked to side of the road and reloaded my gun right there with all the traffic going up and down the road. Hindsight...

OP, I sincerely hope you at least inform the Chief there that training or a policy change is needed. I wish we could feel safe informing an officer but I have read a few too many incidents like this to feel good about doing it.

I guess it's okay then to take someones firearm and check to see if it's stolen without any reason to believe that it might be.

My point being is can an officer take possession of any items you may have just to check and see if they are stolen without having reasonable suspicion that they might be?

There should be a law against that. :n00b:

It's incidents like this that cry out for video recording. A video of the officer pointing a loaded firearm at your son shown to the local prosecutor along with a demand for felony charges to be brought against him might make someone have a bad day. If that didn't get the desired result, taking the video to various local media outlets might.

There are laws against that. Unfortunately, some believe that they are above them.

I assume since they checked to see if the pistol was stolen, he should have taken the child into custody and checked to see you had kidnapped the kid. After all you never know and a kid is more important than a gun... well usually... but... well you know what I mean.

At least ONE of these LEOs is an INGO member. We've discussed it in detail over a 1911 conversation.
Maybe he'll see this and "educate" a fellow officer?
