At the very least, when a search is conducted in a crime, the firearm will be traced. If you are part of that trace, you should have a pretty good idea where you got the firearm from and if you gifted it, who you gifted it to. Certainly it's OK to gift or sell a firearm within this state to qualified residents. Out of state? You're playing percentages and they can be costly. Why risk it when a transfer runs $15 to $25?
