I gave my brother 2 pistols anda rifle. He lives in Michigan. We had to go threw a FFL for the pistols. Even as a FTF transfer. The rifle did not need to go threw an FFL.

Same deal when I gave my pops a pistol in Arizona. Better check with a Tx FFL.

The heck it didn't! ANY ANY ANY interstate transfer of a firearm between two non-licensees (ONLY with the exception of inheritance) MUST go through an FFL. Doesn't matter what the firearm is.

The only difference in the transaction between pistol or long gun is that if it is a long gun, you can do the transfer at an FFL in EITHER state, so long as state law allows. A handgun must be transferred by an FFL in the transferee's state.
