The Broken Bow HS in Nebraska will let students pose with guns in their yearbook this year.

Our school doesn't allow any pics to be submitted by students for inclusion in the yearbook.:(

We just did our boy's senior pics. Firearms, dead animals, hunting dogs, etc, all figured prominently in the production...

Much to his mother's and our effeminate photographer's chagrin.;)

It is an el 10 gauge-o from Spain.;)

It belongs to my Dad's buddy. My dad is an OTR trucker and semi-pro ammo hoarder. They guy told him to buy every box of 10 gauge he sees. He's in hock to my dad for about 30 boxes at this point, so Dad is holding the gun hostage until he pays up.

If you get the chance load it up and touch off a few rounds. It will get your attention.

Not a thread jack but on the topic of senior pictures this was my sons choice. The car was so much faster than it looked.

Exactly. If you are a bird hunter it is perfect.
I got mine from a long time friend that can no longer hunt due to drinking and riding his Harley. To many pins and screws in his right shoulder. He needed some funds so I bought several of his long guns. That is one of them. It is a freaking hoot to shoot.

A temporary stop-gap at best. A band-aid on an missing limb. It's not the people. It's the system.

That may be true.....time will tell. If they continue to screw it up, we will continue to replace band-aids. I can say this though....as soon as the new school board got the chance they fired the super..........that is something none of us can do without changing the board/band-aids.

Who will the super super if there is no one to super?

Everybody thinks we have to save government schools. Why is that? Let them crash and burn.

So...lets say the students were posing with jackets or clothing that was representative of a rival school. Say they posted that picture and talked about prom. Then say that was the discussion that caused a "disturbance"...still suspended?

Inject any subject you like, same scenario, but no guns - still suspended?

    You know the answer.

And our courts support the "right" of some non citizen muslim kid to bring a dagger to school as part of his apparel. Please wake me and tell me I am having a bad dream from eating to much pepperoni pizza.

First, He was a Sikh, not a Muslim. Oh, and you know he is an illegal alien how? I've seen zero references to this family's immigration status in any of the reports.

If you thought the stereotypical AK waving, beheading Muslim was night and day from a Christian you aint seen nothing. Sikhs are a peaceful, pacifist religion and to mix up the two is ignorantly offensive. Second those ceremonial knives are called Kirpans, and those miniature versions are typically about as sharp as a letter opener by design as they are strictly ceremonial at that size. Its like comparing somebody's cross necklace to a wooden crucifixion cross. Only a fool would compare the two.

It's not like the kid was granted the ability to carry a scimitar or 6" razor sharp Kershaw around campus. Besides, real world SANE decisions like the ability to carry a knife shaped object when its harmless should be common sense around here. After all we are constantly ragging on school administrators about things like punishing kids for posing with freakin airsoft guns... How is this any different?

The administration stated that he must keep it "holstered" and concealed, cant pass it around or show it off, etc. Replace Kirpan with Gun for your visit to campus. "You may keep it on you because its legal for you to carry outside of campus, just dont take it out of your holster while on campus and we'll be fine." Why is that OK for you and your gun but not OK for this student and his ceremonial knife?

It IS OK for the gun... at least according to us... just not the schools. Just trying to illustrate the double standard of "how dare you prevent me from peacibly carrying my gun" vs "hells no he cant have his ceremonial knife" Goose, gander, etc.

And I don't think he had a double standard implicit in his post, except the one that existed by the other people. Had the individual with the "ceremonial knife" (uh-huh) not been a minority, the outcome would have been different.

I agree with most of your post. Just a couple of things, one Sikhs aren't really "pacifist" they are generally non violent but they aren't pacifists. And usually the Kirpan is sharp. While it is a symbol of their religion same as wearing a cross or a Star of David on a necklace or a yarmulke. It's also meant for defense which is part of their religion, men are required to be ready and able to defend themselves and their family, the Kirpan is a symbol of that and as such it's usually sharp and ready to be used for that purpose. In India Sikh men usually carry something a bit larger, up to and including scimitar sized.

I could be wrong, but you are correct except for those tiny ones. It is my understanding those ones with a 2-3" blade are carried as a purely ceremonial piece to symbolize the real thing for instances where carrying an actual weapon is not possible.

And yes, pacifist isn't exactly the right word. They will do what they can to avoid a fight and are not instigators, but will fight when necessary.

eta: not all are sharp... Especially the tiny ones.

The answer is YES. As a former teacher, we had to deal with issues that began outside of school but caused isgnificant disruptions DURING school. That is what happened in this case.
