While the North Koreans have a large military with fairly modern equipment, the South Koreans also have a modern military with up-to-date equipment. I really doubt the South will be taken by surprise as they were in 1950. I don't think the US will be much of a factor in any conflict with the North, at least initially, and we don't have any significant ground forces anywhere close for reinforcement. However, I think the South can probably take care of the North in any conventional engagement. Where I think we need to we wary of North Korea is in their support of other world wide terrorist organizations.

Some years back, when I was still in the military, my friends who were stationed in Korea said it appeared the US didn't have troops there to protect the South from the North -- our guys were there to protect the North from the South... Apparently the ROK military was ready and willing to go sort the Norks hash once and for all. dunno if it is still that way tho.

Altho I'm sure our present CinC and government would do everything it could to kick the legs out from under the South if war did break out.

Tony Katz made a good statement this morning. If our Government allows terrorist style threats to stomp on our freedoms, unchecked, what's next?

Wait. This statement confuses and concerns me. I don't know who Tony Katz is, but was he saying that .gov should compel the movie's release? That is, force Sony to distribute it? That's a singularly bad idea.

This is a private company making a decision. (There may be .gov failures that created the situation, but that's different.) This is more like insurance companies/owners paying Somali pirates to get their ships back. The first time the pirates got the booty (heh heh), it was a green light for more pirating.

This will likely have the same effect.

    And for "Red Dawn" (2011)...nuthin'

...although you may recall that that movie was delayed because the bad guys were originally Chinese, then China made a stink and the bad guys were digitally altered to be North Koreans.

Sounds like excellent marketing to me, everybody will be buying tickets to this movie when it's finally released.

They were expecting to make $20 million opening weekend, it didn't say how much it cost to make the film but Sony is loosing a ton of money on this deal.

*America will NEVER give in to the demands of terrorists! (unless they don't like our movies in which case we will fold like a beach chair.)

That's what they get for being cowards

Some delicious irony can't be overlooked.....

Hollywood actors are coming out and having a ****fit about suppression of the 1st Amendment in silencing this movie..........

Hey Hollywood, you know how you like to support suppression of the 2nd Amendment?

It sucks when they get to something you support doesn't it?

Obama wants us on our knees. Somehow he has gotten SONY and some Theater Owners to go on their knees. With Obama having given the Castro Brothers what they want and we get nothing, I'd say Obama is going to be a bad bad boy for the rest of 2014. For the uneducated, the film industry is where most of them get their education. IMO. You all notice there are not many Military based movies being made and/or nominated for any awards.

It's going to be an interesting upcoming two years in Our Country.

More along the lines of stepping in-between the threat and the American right of free speech. If NK is threatening terrorist style retaliation for a satire situation movie, the US should be ready to respond and respond harshly to those threats rather than tell the producers of the movie... let's not hurt their feelings.

Ah, so like calling up the National Guard to protect movie theaters who show it? Ok, that would be an over-reaction. But, I guess I wouldn't mind if some DHS dollars subsidized additional security for the opening week of the movie. That would be a better expenditure of the funds than some other things I can think of.

More like protecting people who are exercising their right to other people exercise their freedom of expression.
