I think he would be solid on 2A issues. I think he would politicize the court though. I really want the next justices appointed to be solid, no-name, no-baggage, no-drama, boring originalists. Just shut up and decide cases. Cruz just isn't that.

Good point though I do notice that Mike Lee IS on Trump's list of potential nominees. That would be awesome.

So if he runs on "draining the swamp," how does that reconcile with appointing guys who have been career politicians to his cabinet? Is he going to bring in fresh, smart faces, or is he going to bring in the old guard?

It's going to be an interesting 4 years, and while I'm not expecting a Cromwellesque sweep of dc I hopeful that we'll see some cleanup. There are some risks involved in going after the clinton machine, but if they have committed crimes while in leadership positions they should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law and sentenced severely.

I think his back is against a wall here. Filling his ranks full of "fresh" faces might appeal to the public and be consistent with the "drain the swamp" philosophy, but it might also allow the more experienced and savvy politicians to effectively block them from achieving any of their agenda points. On the other hand, if he fills the ranks with experienced politicians with pre-existing connections and networks, he might be opening himself up to criticism from the public...even though it may allow him to achieve more of his agenda points.

I have my doubts that a single man can bring down the establishment...it is fully entrenched, and running the "long con".

True.... but when names like Gingrich and Guiliani are being thrown around, it certainly would have me scratching my head. And honestly, while he made those promises, I can't say with confidence that he actually holds that belief, and was anything other than a catch phrase.

Drain the swamp is a metaphor for getting rid of corruption. Presumably changing administrations in itself would do that.

I'm never a fan of using the threat of holding back federal funds as political punishment when it's liberals doing it to conservative states. I'm not going to change just because the sides have switched. If it's wrong, it's wrong regardless of ideologies.

I think that clearly immigration laws are a constitutional federal power. And I think that disregarding those laws should have consequences. I'm just not sure what those consequences should be. Perhaps the federal government can sue the states or cities. Perhaps individuals who think they are harmed by illegals should be able to sue these sanctuary cities.

Suing a state is just suing the tax payers.

I'm not really sure how that's productive or teaches anyone a lesson. Withholding funding for a department that refuses to do their job is absolutely acceptable.

With Trump I at least have some hope to get the country out of the grips of the Socialist, globalist, gun grabbers, that want full control without repercussions.
It's a new Administration I haven't lost hope in. But....

At most we're only postponing the inevitable. Having the SCOTUS pick is a big help as long as Trump follows through with what he promised. But if you really want to reverse the trend towards socialism, we have to take back the schools first.

We shall see. If you notice, for the most part presidents seem to be fairly consistent once they enter office.

I'd say that's usually right. Trump on the other hand leaves thoughts of unpredictable.

My theory on the consistency of Presidents, especially foreign policywise, is as soon as they see those national security reports, the weight of the office comes to bear.
