I had a patient who had horrible back pain. I saw a cancer on his CT close to where his nerve was that was causing all
of his pain. Rather than recommend fighting the cancer I recommended we let it grow and maybe it will kill the nerve that is causing his pain. His widow and I still talk occasionally

Daesh fanbois Abu Sayyaf beheaded a German hostage, Juergen Kantner. Video available on the web, but is pretty much like any other beheading, although he seemed to struggle at the last minute a bit more than most. Not enough rehearsals for him to become inured to the possibility.

Anyway, his female companion at the time of the hostage-taking, Sabine Merz, was killed trying to resist. Probably better that way.

He'd been hijacked and taken hostage on his yacht by Somali pirates in 2008, and a ransom was paid. Abu Sayyaf wanted a ransom, too, but apparently Germans only get one ransom per lifetime.
