I would have to disagree, in the case of schools. Teachers need to do their job every day. If they shut down the school by taking off and the school allows it that is a crime against the students and parents.

these schools could have told the teachers no. They didn't. They canceled school before today. if I ask for a day off, my boss tells me no, I go to work. If I don't go to work I lose my job. That's pretty simple logic. Had the schools stood up for the students and told the teachers no, there would be a lot of vacancies now, vacancies I am sure would be filled pretty quick. Let's lay blame where it needs to be, the administration who felt it was important for these women to attend this "day off" and closed the schools.
I've taken time off work to meet with politicians, to attend rallies, all for the sake of gun rights. I was cheered for that from this same crowd who are saying the teachers should do this on their own time.

this has been going through my head all day, and I think this is the appropriate place for it

First they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Socialist.
Then they came for the Trade Unionists, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Trade Unionist.
Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—
Because I was not a Jew.
Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I think most of the comments here, are about missing work, not protesting.
When I miss work, I better have a doctor's note, or a death in the immediate family.

OK, tell me what the stated goal of the walk out is.

Because all of the conjecture in this thread has not given the stated cause.

it's one in the same. I was cheered when I missed work to attend rallies, meet with Senator Donnelly and Senator Coats to fight for the rights of gun owners.
this cause isn't important to us, me included, so it's wrong that they missed work :dunno:

For me, it's not wrong they wanted the day off.
It's wrong the administration let them all have the day off and closed the school.
If a bunch of us at work want the same day off, they let say the first 5 people that asked off. Everyone else is told, "We already have 5 people off that day, should have asked sooner" Take the day off anyway? " Oh we don't need you anymore, your laid off" or you're the first to get laid off when it gets slow, and the last to get called back when it picks up .

I didn't miss work and the young woman in the yoga pants that I've been working with recently didn't miss work either, it was a good day.

I asked the same question early in the thread.
We are men so apparently we do not understand.

MrsG.......what you were working towards was a protection under the constitution. I am not sure what these woman are trying to change. So in my mind every one of them should be laid off. Until there is some "Real" explanation for all of this.

    Exactly my point.
We are generating protected classes that are not held to the standards we are all expected to follow.

If you're going to lose your job for missing one day, it means that your employer doesn't value you very highly, possibly because you aren't very good at what you do.

Or it means you cost him a lot of money or lost him a contract. If I cant trust you to hold up your end of the employment deal, why should I keep you on the payroll?

The only rallys/protests i can take off, cost me vacation days. And if someone is already on vacation, then i already know it is denied.
My choice is, show up for assigned shift, or don't bother coming in. That's come down from the Union, even covering people on their 3rd double shift.

    What red said.
I made one small mistake. Shut the wrong instrument off. I was only a foot or so away. The labels were similar.
25 years of good performance barely saved me from the almost 1 million dollars my mistake cost.
And if they fired me, there are 75-100 other fellow craftsman to replace me.

    A day without a woman?
I've been running around the country for three weeks.
Rougher on her than me so... no doubt what I'm doing this weekend.
