Bought a Hi Point 995ts carbine brand new for $318 last December and it's been flawless shooting over 500 rounds. I'm not a fan of Hi Point pistols but I've been very happy with the carbine, plus the lifetime warranty is nice.

W/ a 100 yd zero for a 115gr 9mm, you'd need to adjust for somewhere around 118" of drop (~40 moa) to hit at 300. Pistol cals really drop like a rock past 100.

ps. this is why USPSA is so fun with these guns. :)

I will definitely be trying a USPSA match with this. There is that much drop out of a 16" barrel? MV/energy should be much higher than a pistol, but I suppose it is still a heavy bullet compared to the MV. Might need to get a 13F in front calling the artillery shots...

I wouldn't expect too much extra velocity from a 16" barrel. maybe more, maybe less. I used 1200fps in the calculator for a 115gr ball (138PF) which is reasonably generous, IMO, for typical ball (non +p, etc).

Trying to hit with 10-15 feet of holdover is why most 3-gun matches won't allow PCCs if they have any significant distance.....

I wonder why? I read every post in this thread and found no love for the Mech Tech CCU carbine. I have one for a Glock 21 frame and think it's fantastic. The 45acp out of it really surprised me at the lack of noise and recoil. It is now a better option for home defense than a shotgun. My wife is in her 70's and she really likes it. I like it so well that a Glock 17 version is on the way and will be here at the end of the week. I found it to be a solid performer and very easy to keep clean. The company has more than enough mods to make it as you want. I don't care for the Kel Tec in any caliber and the Hi Point is no better, but that is just me. I do like the pistol/carbine combination really well. Just my thoughts.

I considered one. But I could get a PSA AR-9 for about the same cost, without having to sacrifice my sidearm's availability.

Ooh, this has me intrigued. One of these may well be on my list. A "grease gun" caliber PCC.

I've pretty much switched to the 9mm Glock platform, but don't see dedicating a handgun to a PCC, thus AR PCC's. This could be different though, a specialized, Glock triggered, self defense thumper that wouldn't feel like it's put together from a handgun I should be carrying.

    Hmm...

You won't get much extra velocity from a 16" barrel.

Also, the weight of the projectile doesn't really matter. It's going slow and loses speed quickly because a 9mm bullet has a lot more drag than a bullet designed for a centerfire rifle. The slower it goes, the longer it takes to go 300 yards. The longer it takes, the farther the bullet will drop.

Wanted to chrono some ammo today for my PCC.
    My 147gr USPSA load:
886.9 Fps (130.x PF) from a Glock 19. (Right where I expected it to be; usually 135+ PF from a G34)
852.7 Fps (125.3 PF) from my 12" RRA barreled AR.

I might actually have to work up a new load, maybe 124s for this new PCC before I go to any major matches with it. (Or see if the barrel speeds up a little after a thousand rounds....)

Intereting. I was talking with a PCC guy last Sunday and he was able to back off the powder and make power compared to his pistol. Just depends on the gun I suppose.

Yea, depends on gun and load. I am using Titegroup which is a faster powder, so it's going to quit making pressure faster....

Just curious how many people here use plated bullets in their 9mm carbines? Seems like a cheaper alternative to FMJ, if they stay under 1200 fps.

The gun matters, but in this case it's more about the load. rvb is using a powder that burns fast, so the bullet is still in the barrel of his carbine and actually slowing down because the net force applied by friction exceeds the force exerted by the gas flow behind the bullet for the last few inches before it exits.

I am running the HiTech coated bullets in mine.

Plated in CX-4 Storm. No issues.

Only have used Xtreme plated bullets in my MPX, they do great. It only has a 5.5" barrel so guess not a carbine though

I run plated or coated in my EVO carbine.

Thanks guys. Will more than likely try plated and coated and see how they run. FMJs start getting a little expensive after awhile. Thanks again for your time guys...
