I talked to a "suit" today at the Greenwood GM and asked about the closing signs everywhere.
I was told by him that the new parent company was still trying to decide which stores were going to be closed.
Greenwood is to remain open I was told.

Probably why the Greenwood store is not honoring any Gander Mountain promotions or coupons.

I saw they will allow gift cards until 5/18. I'll have to stop in and use my reward certificates. Not sure if my Gander card will get transferred to a Camping World card, may have to apply for a Cabela's card. I prefer Cabela's, but I go to Gander more because I have 2 stores closer to me.

I've got a gander mountain credit card, I was foolishly dooped into. The cashier asked if I had a rewards card and if I did it could save me 100$ on my purchase. I said no but would like one. She carded me for the ammo I was buying and said sign when the screen comes up and I did. Then the screen said approved for 5000$ and asked how I wanted to pay for my purchase. I paid cash for my purchase but have the bull**** gander mountain credit card hanging out in my check book. I watch the emails from the center bank to make sure I don't owe the ****ers anything. Wonder how the closing of the store will effect my bull**** credit card I got from them?

Posted in the Avon thread, but fits here too:

Just got back from the Gander Mountain in Greenwood. There is a a sign every 10 feet on the gun counter (not kidding) that says that there is NO discount on firearms or ammo, nor will they honor any Gander Mountain ads, flyers, promotions or coupons.

    I won't miss them.

Now that sucks! I'm not surprised at the no discount of guns and ammo, but they damn sure should honor their own advertised prices and coupons, etc..

Big chain stores that don't use their buying power to provide lower prices to customers are dropping like flies.
    Which is a good thing.

I believe the locations that not discounting the guns and ammo will stay open. They are just clearing out everything else. The stores that are selling all the inventory will either turn into a Camping World or close permanently. I doubt guns and ammo will ever be part of camping world.

Maybe they will consolidate all the guns and ammo from their stores and sell it in bulk to Rural King! Nah probably not, rural King probably gets better prices wholesale than they would sell it for, LOL.

I don't think guns was a bad bet. Overstocking guns that were not likely to sell reasonably quickly may have been a bad bet. When the Greenwood store opened, new guns were out on the floor where every goof who walked in there could, and did, beat them up. Took them a number of damaged guns to come to that realization. I watched several CZ rifles stay on the shelf for 2-3 years waiting for the prices to come down to reasonable. Never happened. I'm sure they were not an isolated case. I suspect most of their gun sales were to uninformed and/or impulse buyers. Probably very limited repeat customers. Having a large inventory is not a good thing if you aren't turning it over.

Stopped in the one in Greenfield last weekend for their store closing sale. Discount prices were still higher than what I can buy elsewhere although I did save 50 cents on some targets. I will neither miss Gander or Marsh.

I stopped in there too, they don't even know how to do a going out of business sale right. They didn't have anything on sale that people would actually be interested in and what was on sale was only 10% off which as you said was higher than regular price at other places.

I bought 1 firearm from the TH location. The only reason was it was priced the same as other places and they had it in stock. Rarely ever bought ammo there. Always looked...always kept walking. I mainly went there for fishing stuff. If I couldn't find it at Walmart then I went to Gander. Some of my St. Croix rods came from the TH store too.

Gander didn't give a crap for what it's customers thought of them when they were a viable company.
I'm betting they couldn't care less than before just about now.

The Avon store has always had terrible customer service, but I`ve always enjoyed Gander Mountain in general. Nothing, and no one, in my opinion, ever came close to Galyans. Man, I loved that place. Spent a ton of money there too. But I`ll likely go to Gander, just to check out what they have left and look at prices. If I see something I want or need, I`ll maybe get it. If I feel it`s still too much money, I`ll pass. Just as I`ve always done.
